    the system.lastuser variable...

    does this echo total users... as in user one is one, and lastuser is lastuser...

    or..

    does it echo the user number of the last user, while the first user; user
    one, is user number zero..?

    system.lastuser is the number of the slots in your user database (including deleted and inactive user records).

    system.total_users is the number of valid (not deleted or inactive) user records in your user database.
