• Credit Transfer Bank V1.21 (CTB.ZIP)

From SYS64738@VERT to All on Monday, October 11, 2021 09:32:53
Is anyone else running this door? I'm running the latest version of Synchronet on a Windows 10 machine. When accessing the door from the BBS, the user can get to this point, but the door does not accept input of any type. After enough time
has elapsed, it simply times out and returns to the previous menu. Any ideas?

By the way, the author is not accessible so I can't ask him.

Welcome to the Credit Transfer Bank on UNREGISTERED!
You can transfer credits to another user!!!

    You have 108107776 credits!

    Withdraw, Deposit, or Quit?

Try setting "Native Executable" to No.

I assume this is the program you're referring to:
    -rw-rw-r-- 1 sbbs sbbs 39277 Mar 17 1998 /xfer/sbbs_3rd/CTB.ZIP

"Native" in this context is referring to Linux or Windows 32/64-bit native exectuables. Any Synchronet add-on written in 1998 is going to be a DOS program - so, definitely not native.

    -rw-rw-r-- 1 sbbs sbbs 39277 Mar 17 1998 /xfer/sbbs_3rd/CTB.ZIP

    Yes, that's the one.

Try setting "Native Executable" to No.

add-on written in 1998 is going to be a DOS program - so, definitely not native.

Ok, I set "Native Executable" to "No" and changed nothing else. However, with "Native Executbale" set to "No", I can't make it past the "Rabun Astral Bank External Programs" menu. At that menu, there are presently only two options: "1" to go to "Manage Credits" or "Q" to "Quit". Choosing "1" briefly displays the "1" that I typed, but I remain at the "Rabun Astral Bank External Programs" menu. Choosing "Q" takes me back to the "Select External Program Section" menu. Now the issue is how do I get to the "Credit Transfer Bank Version 1.21" menu.

Below are the order of the menus after making selections for reference:

    ------------------------------------------------
1ST MENU: "Select External Program Section" Menu ------------------------------------------------

    Select External Program Section:

    1: Main
    2: Games
    3: Operator
    4: Rabun Astral Bank
    5: Domain Shopper

    Which, Quit or [1]: 4

    ----------------------------------------------------
2ND MENU: "Rabun Astral Bank External Programs" Menu ----------------------------------------------------

    Rabun Astral Bank External Programs:

    Num Name

    1 Manage Credits

    Which or Quit: 1

    --------------------------------------------------
3RD MENU: "Credit Transfer Bank Version 1.21" Menu --------------------------------------------------

oh i thought this was a money transfer door using credit cards. regardless, i'm still not sure why you are trying to use a credit transfer door in today's age. dont use a credit system. it will chase away the users. if we HAD users.

regarding your question, perhaps something could be done via javascript.

No doubt. However, I don't plan to use it in the conventional manner

True, but I don't program in javascript. So, it would probably look like a ball of crap by the time I was done with it.

SBBS sets the SBBSNODE (and several) environment variables automatically when running external programs, so no, that doesn't add any clarity (that error would be expected if you ran it from outside of SBBS).

Hmmm...ok. Back to the drawing board.

I figure it has something to do with the configurations for "Intercept I/O" and/or "Native Executable". When I modify either of these I get a slightly different outcome.

So yes, it works. But if you try to withdraw without first depositing, you'll get an error about opening CTB.DAT. Not a great program or anything. You could have written something better in Baja or JavaScript in less time that you've spent fussing with this.

I set the parameters the same as you displayed above. Still can't get any function out of the withdraw/deposit menu.

Once the CTB.DAT file is created successfully (by the deposit), it seems to "work":

I appreciate your trying to help regardless, but I think you're right. I've monkeyed with this old door long enough. Now I begin the laborsome task of learning a new language (Baja).

If you're going to learn a new language, I recommend JavaScript over Baja.

If you're going to learn a new language, I recommend JavaScript over Baja.

I'll keep that in mind. So far, Baja seems rather straightforward.

    Thanks again for your help.
