• Usage of AKAs

From Michael Mrak@VERT to All on Tuesday, May 04, 2021 16:46:22
    Hello everybody!

I have to explain this a bit now because otherwise it will get too confusing.

I have been running a BinkD, Husky & GoldEd combination with the node address 2:31/123. I have now shut it down, and of course unsubscribed from all Echomails for this address beforehand.

I operate my Synchronet BBS with the also registered address 2:31/124 (and also with the address 954:895/13 as AKA). I receive and send Echomails via 2:31/124 without any problems. Can I also add the address 2:31/123 as an AKA (just so that I can still be reached via Netmail using this address)? Is there anything to consider in the configuration for this operation with a second FidoNet AKA. I love the Synchronet Wiki but of all things the menus there are not yet fully documented. That's why I'm a little helpless here :-)

Is there anything to consider for the use of AKAs? Because I would like to connect other networks via Binkit in the future. Are there do's and dont's here?

    Michael

    Yes.

    Is
there anything to consider in the configuration for this operation with a second FidoNet AKA.

When you send NetMail, it'll use the first/best AKA match unless you have the SCFG->Networks->FidoNet->Choose NetMail Source Address option set to "Yes", in which case the sender/user is prompted for which source AKA to use.

I love the Synchronet Wiki but of all things the menus
there are not yet fully documented. That's why I'm a little helpless here :-)
