Yeah, I think it's actually less than that (60-70MB), but a lot of that is 3rd party content. I don't really care how big or small an install of it is, within reason. I used to pride myself on how small an install was (or could be), but don't care much these days.

No, that's what I was explaining. I mereing explaining that the SBBSCTRL:File->Run->Update menu option can be used in place of running "jsexec update" from a command-line. You'd still have to download and extract any dev-update zip files by hand before that.

Then on to my next question then, how about an option on Synchronet Control Panel to download updates from the GitHub automatically? I think that a lot of Sysops would love that one.

On the surface it doesn't sound like a bad idea but once you realize the kinds of customizations some people have and how quickly such an option could wreak havoc on some sysop's work doing the manual file updates followed by the code recompile seems the more sane option.

Trust me, I love the *idea* but in practice it would be more pain than it's worth.

    thanks to you too. :)

I agree it does make you think as you record them what to include and what
not to etc. I plan to do some more to update what I have done. Not just yet
but there are plans to do so. I have some stuff to sort with my own setups

It might be a little different for me since I'm demoing something I wrote and thus have strong thoughts on how it's supposed to behave. And when I'm making a video and the software doesn't behave as I expect, I make a note of it and then (usually) go back and improve/fix the software to behave better next time. Earlier this year I made a video on setting up FidoNet with Synchronet and I was surprised it was still as difficult as it was and I discovered a number of bugs in the process as well. It was an eye-opener. So yeah, videos from now on. :-)

Actually, I think the video's are great.

While wiki's are great to find out how to do something you want to do, the videos give you a perspective of how somebody else does something and sometimes that is attractive/useful/insightful. IE: "I didnt realise I could do that..." moments.

Actually, I think the video's are great.

For me, videos are good for an overview, but not detailed instructions, because of the mismatch between the speed of information delivery, and the rate at which I take information in (which can be highly variable!). The most detailed parts are the worst, because I tend to be slower than the video, and the act of rewinding and replaying impacts on my working memory, slowing things down more.

So I think there's room for both. For me, the roles are quite complementary - video for an overview, written for the detailed instructions.

While wiki's are great to find out how to do something you want to do,
the videos give you a perspective of how somebody else does something
and sometimes that is attractive/useful/insightful. IE: "I didnt

On that count I'd agree, part of the "overview" that I can get from videos.

Sounds perfect, I see them as potentially offering something different. There are other places I've been where you fo to the "help" section and all they have is a video, rather than saying "Here's a video that shows... And here's the PDF."

Which requires the same working memory to manage that is already overloaded by the video, slowing down things even more. I did an online course that happened to be all video base. The content was great, but it was a chore trying to do the steps under video instruction. Worse, and I don't know if it's pure coincidence, I haven't been in the right frame of mind to do online study since (regardless of format). I'm hoping that's just a coincidence, and not a contributing factor to a recent "burnout" event (multiple other factors involved). No way of knowing for sure.
