I've noticed lately that people are starting to use SBBS for drug advertising. That is very sad for the BBS world.

its because someone likely let a spam bot accidently post in dovenet.

I see it as a two-sided coin. First, it shows that BBS are relevant to skim that 1% of buyer response from, like the spammers did with email years ago.

On the other side, it gives the impression that BBS are on the seedy side of the spectrum, where people who go on the boards do so to hide their
    intentions.

And, I've added their names to the twit filter over here...so their
messages will be pruned when they come in.

It's coming from a couple BBSes that don't have their stuff locked
down. Contact the Sysop if it bothers you.

I updated my blacklist file with a bunch of IP and host names, and
I'm also using Peerblock, the CAPTCHA, and the script with Synchronet
that helps to keep the bots out.

Plus, until they're verified, they don't get access to post in any
message areas, except for Feedback To The Sysop.

I'm thinking it may not be a bad idea to add a flag to a user that signs up via the web interface, and disallow posting by default for users with that flag in n ew synchronet installs.

Or make it where if you want a nntp account you have to sign in via the
telnet side to get access to the nntp server.
