• ERROR 24

    I am having this error line in the syslog:

    synchronet: evnt BBS Events !ERROR 24 (Too many open files) in logon.cpp line 556 (logonstats) opening "/sbbs/ctrl/dsts.dab" access=2
    ********************

    Can anyone tell me what it is or what is wrong?

    It sounds like the user you're running sbbs as, has a limit on the concurrently open files.

    'ulimit -n' (run as the user in question) will tell you what that number of open files is:
    $ ulimit -n
    1024

    Since Wednesday night 22 has not happened again. The limit is 1024. Is this normal or rare?

    I've never heard of it happening on Linux. 1024 is pretty big number, but I guess you could increase it if it's a problem.

    i had to set the fs.file-max = 200000 in the /etc/sysctl.conf under
    debian to avois same error message.
