• BINKPS - Error in recv() of first byte

From alterego@VERT/ALTERANT to Digital Man on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 08:36:29
    Hey DM,

Sorry, cant remember if I asked this already, I know I was going to.

In FSX we are using binkps more and more, and I'm seeing this in the log of all binkps sessions (not with binkp).

    3/18 08:26:09a 0288 BINKPS connection accepted from: 219.89.83.33 port 49174
    3/18 08:26:09a 0288 BINKPS BinkIT/2.28 invoked with options:
    3/18 08:26:09a 0288 BINKPS JSBinkP/1.122 inbound connection from 219.89.83.33:49174
    3/18 08:26:09a 0288 BINKPS Peer version: Mystic/1.12A46 binkp/1.0
    3/18 08:26:09a 0288 BINKPS Remote addresses: 21:1/100@fsxnet 21:1/3@fsxnet 21:1/2@fsxnet 21:1/0@fsxnet 21:0/0@fsxnet
    3/18 08:26:09a 0288 BINKPS Inbound session for: 21:1/100@fsxnet
    3/18 08:26:09a 0288 BINKPS CRAM-MD5 password match for 21:1/100@fsxnet
    3/18 08:26:10a 0288 BINKPS Inbound file already exists: C:\BBS\SBBS\temp\fffe0000.wem
3/18 08:26:10a 0288 BINKPS Error in recv() of first byte of packet header
    3/18 08:26:10a 0288 BINKPS service thread terminated (0 clients remain, 0 total, 2 served)

The "Errror in recv() of first byte of packet header" - do you know what that is about? Trans

I'm also seeing a lot of "Inbound file already exists". Indeed it does. In fact when I look in temp I find a bunch of files (mail and files transferred by tic) that are all 16,384 in size, or except one is 65536 in size (suspicious).

(All dated in the last 2 weeks - which is when binkps has started to be used in FSX.)

Why are those files lingering and at that size?

This is on my Windows SBBS - sbbsecho is 3.151 and binkit is 2.28

I don't. Is the problem only happening with Mystic mailers?

My guess is they are an artifact of the "Error in recv".

This is on my Windows SBBS - sbbsecho is 3.151 and binkit is 2.28

The BinkIT author is Deuce in #synchronet. Perhaps he can shed some light on it.

It would appear so. I've received connections from binkp linux and binkp OS/2.

In fact, it doesnt appear for all Mystic systems polling me - so far it only looks like Avon's. It also seems to always have a preceeding issue of "File already exists" - which was one of those 16K files. As a result, Avon keeps trying to send me the same file (which I've actually alread received from him).

    C:\BBS\SBBS>dir ep200317*.* /s
    Directory of C:\BBS\SBBS\data\dirs\imge
    18/03/2020 02:01 AM 545,212 ep200317.zip
    Directory of C:\BBS\SBBS\temp
    18/03/2020 02:01 AM 16,384 ep200317.zip

I know I've cleared out those files once earlier, and its appeared again. I'll ask if Avon can give me some debugging on his side.

BTW: I ran jsexec binkit and it gave me more debugging:

Got M_NUL command args: QSIZE 1 files 545,212 bytes
    Got M_FILE command args: ep200317.zip 545212 1584457278 0
    Inbound file already exists: C:\BBS\SBBS\temp\ep200317.zip
    Sending M_SKIP command args: ep200317.zip 545212 1584457278
    Sent M_SKIP command
    Got data frame length 16384
    Data packet outside of file!
    Got data frame length 16384
    Data packet outside of file!
    Got data frame length 16384
    Data packet outside of file!
    Got M_EOB command args:
    Unlocking C:/mailer/outbound.015\00010064.bsy.

    If this means something?
