I can't see a big difference between the two but I don't understand why
they dropped it for. I thought OO was a great package.

    Who's "they"?

There are some differences between the two, not the least of which
is the speed of development. Also some licensing differences.

It really has nothing to do with "Synchronet Discussion", though.

What do you mean, dropped? As far as I can tell, both are still around and being developed:
    https://www.openoffice.org
    https://www.libreoffice.org

My understanding was there was a group of people who didn't like where OpenOffice was going, so they forked it off to develop LibreOffice. I seem to remember reading there are some features in LibreOffice that aren't in OpenOffice. There may be some features in OpenOffice that aren't in LibreOffice too.

They are very similar, but LibreOffice has Charts and other features that OO doesn't have. By the way, they are both being developed and not dropped at all.
One question though, what does this have to do with Synchronet? This should be in either Debate or General :-P
