Hey DM. Why is there no compiled versions of Synchronet BBS for Linux or Raspberry Pi like Mystic has?

    1. You can (and should) build from source when you can. This an *advantage* of open source projects like Synchronet.

    2. There *are* prebuilt binaries for Linux-x64 available at ftp://vert.synchro.net/Synchronet/ - who said there wasn't?

It's really not to hard to compile synchronet the instructions are on the synchronet BBS web page.
like I told you before I have a raspian image with both synchronet and mystic both all set up, if you're truly interested I could post a link.

Probably because of the addition to init-xtern and init-fidonet, who pretty

It took some getting going for me and then when I added my first othernet, I had to jiggle some things around, but now adding a new net is pretty easy, even if there's a bunch of steps you have to go through to get there. I have the process down now. I'm still not sure I have my echocfg as it "should be" but I know it works so I'm not likely to change it.

My first FTN - Fidonet itself - took a few goes to get right on Synchronet, but each successive FTN has got easier, to the point that I can now set one up in minutes and have it working first go. Last week, I even had to renumber one of my FTNs, because the owner of that network was forced to change zones. I actually managed it better than the other end, because I was able to preserve all of my echomail feeds, because I simply edited areas.bbs to match the net addressing. And it all worked first go. :)

The coordinator of the New York net should be able to assign you a node number without to much trouble. He will want to setup a secure session with your node also since he is responsible for directing any routed netmail addressed for your node to your node.

You don't need to collect mail or files from there if you don't want to. As a node you can get mail/files from the node or nodes of your choosing. You just need to setup a link with that node or nodes.

There may be personality differences (there often are) but your inclusion in fidonet should not be hard.

Depends on what you define a "feature" as. There is quite a bit SBBS does that goes well beyond what one would expect a typical Bulletin Board System to do (like Hotline support, among other things) and while neat some are more practial than others, but sure, on a whole it's got more going on than I'd expect on any other BBS software package, if only for the sake of having such functions.

Do you think that Synchronet BBS has the most features than any other BBS ever created?

No. Other BBS packages have the exact same features Synchronet has (granted Synchronet has a few more). For instance, WINServer and Synchronet have a lot of the same features (I run both, actually, and I also run Mystic as my main FTN mail system).

No, Mystic is way better. You should check it out. I hear it runs on iPad.

Not per se MORE than other branded BBS softwares, but Sync certainly does it
in its own way... and if you're good at Java/Baja, it would really be the package software for you.

I used to use Renegade, so Mystic is more up my alley... more what I
remember, and easier to use in 2020 because it works a lot (well... simalarly to anyway) how RG used to be programmed/modded; then you just have to add learning the MPL or Python coding part; BUT...

Sync could be changed from the GROUND UP - and IMO much MORE than Mystic -
but most folks don't do that, and the ones who do......... I just haven't
seen a COMPLETELY changed Sync board yet - well... electronic chicken bbs
kinda does it- much in the same way that archaic binary does on the mystic side. Both of those boards are COMPLETELY modified and look what they created
    - I think *THATS* what a real sysop is; the rest of use, at different levels, just modify the system so-so...

For *ME*, my bbs is *MY* portal to the bbs world. Sure, I hope other people like it and want to use it... but I don't have the skills that:

    electronic chicken
    archaic binary
    hustler
vertrauen (BUT his bbs is like... syncronet is HIS so i have a lot of respect for HIS bbs, even tho its basic Sync... its still HIS!)
    hax0rs place
    aBSINTHE
and my very favorite "newcomer" THE UNDERGROUND on mystic...

^^^those guys REALLY push the softwares. AND, many other 'longtime' bbses... acid underworld, necro, bottomless abyss, TQW, etc...

But sync is a badass software, IF you mod it correctly. It can be changed in ANY way you want. For that, sync is special..
