When I go on IRC no one ever talks. Why is that?
most folks are idling... not just chitchatting...
if you have a question, post it and then wait/idle for a while... eventually someone will switch over to their IRC client and notice it... they may provide an answer... if you're idling on IRC, you'll get the response as soon as they type it or as soon as you look to your IRC client... if you post something and then leave, you'll miss any answers that may be posted...
don't ask to ask, just go ahead and ask and then idle... it may be a few minutes or it may be a some hours before someone responds... if someone posts a
response to your question, they'll generally prefix the answer with your nick so your client will beep or flash at you letting you know that someone spoke to
you...
