So the Docs say Synchronet does not use a nodelist. In order to recieve Fidonet Echomail, (Message Areas) you have to send messages to "Arefix". My hub says my msgs to Areafix are not getting through. So what's the problem? Everything is setup verbatum. I send "Netmail" through my Synchronet BBS email like this

    To: AREAFIX@1:267/800
Subject: "Password" Assigned by Hub Coordinator

In the Message editor I put

    %HELP
    %LIST

What am I doing wrong? Or what's wrong with my sbbsecho or binkit setup? The HUB guy is trying to convince me to switching to Mystic because Fidonet works "out of the box". I have to admit there's a lot of settings in my Synchronet fidonet setup. I would imgaine just one needs to be wrong. Did anyone get the memo from fidonet with the Synchronet settings?

    It doesn't.

    In order to recieve
Fidonet Echomail, (Message Areas) you have to send messages to "Arefix".

Not always. If you hub sets up your area links manually, no Areafix is needed.

    My
hub says my msgs to Areafix are not getting through. So what's the problem?

I don't know. You haven't really provided any information.

Everything is setup verbatum. I send "Netmail" through my Synchronet BBS email like this

    What am I doing wrong?

You're typing the wrong address. Your Hub's address is 1:267/801!

I'm just kidding. Seriously, how could anyone possibly know what you've done wrong with so little information. Is the password correct? Is the address correct? Is SBBSecho setup correctly?

Or what's wrong with my sbbsecho or binkit setup?

I have no idea. Have you looked at your logs to see what's actually happening?

Start with data/sbbsecho.log and see if your netmail message is actually being exported and packed for your hub. Then look at your binkit activity in your events log (for outbound connections) to see if the netmail packet created by SBBSecho is being sent to your hub.

The HUB guy is trying to convince me to switching to Mystic because Fidonet works "out of the box".

Did your "HUB guy" actually provide you any details other than "it's not working"? Like, is getting successful BinkP connections from you? Is he reeiving *any* files from you successfully? Maybe there's a packet or areafix password mismatch? His logs would say so.

I have to admit there's a lot of settings in my
Synchronet fidonet setup. I would imgaine just one needs to be wrong. Did anyone get the memo from fidonet with the Synchronet settings?

So the Docs say Synchronet does not use a nodelist.

Which docs? The BinkIT docs say otherwise.

Nodelists may not be used throughout Synchronet's FTN stack, but they are used in places and can be set up via 'echocfg' (Domains -> domain -> NodeList).

Fidonet Echomail, (Message Areas) you have to send messages to "Arefix".

This is somewhat unrelated to the nodelist, except maybe when it comes to routing your message to Areafix.

We'll need to know more about what setup steps you've already taken in order to give real advice. Going through echocfg (as mentioned above re: nodelists and also through the "Linked Nodes" settings) will probably help.

My hub says my msgs to Areafix are not getting through. So what's the problem? Everything is setup verbatum. I send "Netmail" through my Synchronet BBS email like this

    To: AREAFIX@1:267/800

If this is truly verbatim then your subject line is probably wrong. :)

The HUB guy is trying to convince me to switching to Mystic because Fidonet works "out of the box".

This is almost certainly false. Some setup would be required, though maybe less and maybe easier.

Your hub guy probably can't help you with Synchronet because he doesn't know how. You may get better support from him by switching to Mystic. Seems like a lot of hassle, though. Especially for Fidonet, which is a giant sack of shit anyhow.

wrong. Did anyone get the memo from fidonet with the Synchronet settings?

Many of us are using Synchronet with Fido-type networks, often several at once.

true to a point but that most likely has nothing to do with your problem...

the format of your message looks correct assuming that you're using the [E]mail->[N]etmail menu flow in the default sbbs menus... but the problem could
be elsewhere, depending on what your hub means by "messages to Areafix are not getting through"... that could be caused by having (or not) a session password or having (or not) a packet password when the other side is expecting (or not) one...

    Huh?

So you sent me an email saying I "may have missing your fidonet question in Synchronet Discussions". This is my reply to your question, to which you have not replied.

So you sent me your sbbsecho.ini file and in it, you have the inbox and outbox values set for your hub (1:267/800@fidonet):

    Inbox = ../data/inbound
    Outbox = ../data/outbound

When I explained that these settings are most likey your problem, you replied:

They were already there. If they don't belong there take them out so
other new SysOps don't get confused. Not everyone is a programer that's
been running Synchronet since 1989. This is supposed to be a fun
    hobby.

These settings were already there. I didn't put them there. I don't
change default settings unless I know what I'm doing or someone that
does tells me to change them. This is exactly why I never returned to Fidonet after the 90's. All these stupid settings and nobody knows what there are for. "OH... I only know my BBS" they all say.

Now, I'm not really sure what you mean by "these settings were already there". There *no* linked nodes configured by default in sbbsecho.ini, so that's impossible. You seem to be very accusatory of the software. Now I don't know if maybe someone else gave you that sbbsecho.ini file or edited it for you, but the software most certainly did not create those values automatically. So there is nothing for me to "take out".

Please acknowledge that you've received this reply.

Pretty much any grocery store in my area. And it seems they can't decide what to do with the self-checkouts. There are some stores that added self-checkouts and then removed them, and others that have added self-checkouts but close them off at night (and only have one teller line open).

Yeah, that might be true. It kinda sucks though when I need to go to the store late at night and there's only one checkout line open. Some stores used to have a few self-checkout things open, which made it easier to get out quicker.
