can someone tell me if synchronet bbs will work on Microsoft Surface Pro?

I don't see why not, since it runs Windows and has an Intel processor. That said, it probably has the 64-bit edition of Windows on it, so you won't be able to run DOS doors (the 16-bit DOS subsystem isn't there in 64-bit editions of Windows). Otherwise I'd think Synchronet should run on it..

but will the touch screen work with synchronet though or will you need to use a standard keyboard layout? it does pose a question here.

but will the touch screen work with synchronet though or will you need to use a standard keyboard layout? it does pose a question here.

Are you talking about running Synchronet BBS on this device, or just connecting to BBSs as a user?

What do the touch screen and 'standard keyboard layout' have to do with each other? Are you talking about an onscreen keyboard? Wouldn't that be pretty useless if it couldn't send input as if it were a real keyboard?

Isn't the touch screen essentially your mouse? Can't you just use it to tap on things you'd otherwise click on? Or use the stylus? Or hook a real mouse up to the thing?

Wouldn't it be insane if this thing, despite being a tablet/laptop hybrid running Windows 10, could only run applications specifically designed for touch-screen use?

Did I answer your question with several other questions? Can I squeeze some more question marks into this message? It does pose a question here doesn't it?

touchscreens are simply a different type of mouse... it should work just like it would anywhere else... click here, click there... click in an input field and a keyboard should popup unless there's a real keyboard attached...

A touch screen input basically acts like a 2nd mouse connected to the computer. So you can touch buttons & things and it's like clicking on them with a mouse. You still need a keyboard if you want to type things..

I'm not a big fan of touch screens myself. I don't like getting smudges and fingerprints on my screen. Also, with a small screen like one on a Surface Pro, it might be difficult to accurately touch the things on the UI you want to touch.

I used to have one of their older Surface tablets, around 2012-2013 or so. I thought it was an interesting tablet, though I eventually sold it. I found I usually used the keyboard accesorry with it, and the keyboard would flop around when you picked it up.. I decided I'd rather use a laptop and eventually sold my Surface.

Personally I think they are a piece of garbage. It's definitely

LOL! Have you actually ever used a real desktop, or a fairly

    No comparison, is right.

probably early october i plan to purchase a microsoft surface

Not really. What's going to happen in "the fall" to make this

Why would anyone want to run a BBS on a tablet?
makes zero sense to me, there are way better options.
    1.Raspberry PI
    2.cheap thin client PC

that's like saying why play mp3s on your computer?
just because it's a tablet doesn't mean you can't run a bbs on it.

Ok, so you want to just because?
I'm just saying that's not the best way to run a BBS but by all means give it a shot.

oh that i will definitely do for sure.

I'm very confused by this whole thread... Can you help me
    understand it?

So... which of the choices below is more important to you?

    1. Owning a MSP, to use for <whatever>, possibly including running
    SBBS.

    2. Running a Synchronet BBS.

Answering that question should help you decide if the risk of
being "screwed" if SBBS won't run on the MSP is worth it.

If your answer is #1, then you should proceed with getting the MSP
and use it for whatever you desire. Hopefully the SBBS will run
on it (I think it will). However it doesn't seem to be the right
platform to run a BBS on, to me.

If your answer is #2, in my opinion, you should get some *OTHER*
kind of hardware to run the BBS on. A cheap mini-tower computer
and monitor, or a cheap laptop. Both are guaranteed to be able to
    run SBBS.

    Your move.

That's cool. I've never really seen many celebrities around, as I don't live near any.. The only one I've actually seen is Amy Roloff, who is on the show "Little People, Big World" - But I had never heard of her or that show until my wife pointed her out once..

well i knew clockwork angels would be their final before they even announced it. Geddy said that they were sorry they rushed the album but they wanted to make it to the rock and roll hall of fame, otherwise it would have sounded better.

They can probably eventually release a remixed version like they did with Vapor Trails.

he had people bugging him to stand up by a background and get their pic taken with him all night and he didnt mind.

I like Rush, but I suppose I could see how other people might not like them. Not everyone likes Geddy's vocals/singing, and some people just aren't into Rush.

I've been to concerts for several different bands, and Rush is the only one where I've smelled marijuana in the crowd, which I thought was a little odd/annoying.. I suppose I haven't been to THAT many concerts, but I haven't noticed marijuana at other shows (from Paul McCartney, Mark Knopfler, and Trans-Siberian Orchestra, for instance).

That's a common complaint about Rush/Geddy Lee. I suppose I can understand that; he can reach some fairly high-pitch notes with his voice (though it seems his voice may have changed a bit over the years).

My favorite Rush stuff is their albums Moving Pictures through Counterparts. I like some of their songs before & after that period too.

I remember around 1997, reading some things about Rush and that their drummer's (Neil Peart) wife and daughter died within a fairly short amount of time (his daughter died in a car accident, and his wife died from cancer 10 months later). Neil took some time off, and I heard he went on a motorcycle trip for a while and wrote a book called "Ghost Rider: Travels on the Healing Road". Rush was on hiatus while he was away.

Yes I think he went down to Mexico actually on his bike. During that hiatus, he hooked up a with a famous old school drummer. I can't remember which. He reinveted his drumming style and learned how to play using traditional grip instead of the modern grip most drummers use today.

When he reimerged he started playing in like big band events and jazz shit. It was insane. Now, he's able to flip back and forth between grip styles at will. Truly impressive that someone at the peak of his skills threw them aside and learned something completely different, mastered it, then made use of his old and new skills.

The guy really is one of the best percussionists of all time in any genre.

Yes I think he went down to Mexico actually on his bike. During that hiatus, he hooked up a with a famous old school drummer. I can't remember which.

Freddie Gruber (RIP). This happened a few years before the death of his daughter and first wife, around the time of the Test For Echo album.

    He
reinveted his drumming style and learned how to play using traditional grip instead of the modern grip most drummers use today.

Neil originally learned to play the drums using traditional grip and when playing rudiments on the snare, would often revert to traditional grip. He had been doing this... forever, before meeting Freddie. After Freddie, he played *more* traditional grip, but eventually reverted back to primarily playing matched grip.

When he reimerged he started playing in like big band events and jazz shit. It was insane. Now, he's able to flip back and forth between grip styles at will. Truly impressive that someone at the peak of his skills threw them aside and learned something completely different, mastered it, then made use of his old and new skills.
