• newslink taking 100% cpu

From Jason@VERT/HDCBBS to All on Friday, May 03, 2019 19:24:11
So now i have loaded the latest version from the cvs repo.. I am able to get past the error i had in the other post, but now i have come across another issue..

It seems that now, i am coming across a file in the newsgroup and it's not wanting to download it.. i have downloaded other files from the newsgroup, but this particular one will lock up newslink.js and cause it to run at 100% until i issue a kill command from the command prompt.. ctrl-c doesn't kill it..

In my newslink.cfg file, here is what i have configured for this group:

    AREA USENET-ABBSSYNC alt.bbs.synchronet IAB /sbbs/data/subs/usenet/attach-alt_bbs_synchronet

all of that is on one line.. it just word wrapped in the editor here.

Is there something else i can do to prevent it from even trying to download the files and needing decoding? Or something to get me past this 100% cpu issue?

    Thanks,
    Jason

Just remove that 'B' flag to stop the binary file decoding for that group.

Or something to get me past this 100% cpu issue?

Someone would have to root-cause the issue with that particular message and fix it (most likely in one of the .js files).

But do you really need the attachments?

The binary decoding support in newslink.js hasn't been tested/used in a *really* long time. I'd be kind of surprised if it still worked well.

No, i don't need the attachments.. I only turned on the option because it was failing before i turned on the option, and so i thought, let me create the directory and set the option and hopefully that would fix the issue.

I will turn off the option for now and see if there is a way to just get it to skip that particular message.
