• Message board cloning issue

From Michael Borthwick@VERT to All on Saturday, February 02, 2019 16:18:22
So I have these settings in my template sub-board

    Access Requirements LEVEL 10
    Reading Requirements LEVEL 10
    Posting Requirements LEVEL 50
    Operator Requirements LEVEL = 99
Moderated Posting User LEVEL = 90

When I select Clone Options it doesn[t clone the access requirement?

    So I end up with;

    Access Requirements EMPTY
    Reading Requirements LEVEL 10
    Posting Requirements LEVEL 50
    Operator Requirements LEVEL = 99
Moderated Posting User LEVEL = 90

    Am I doing it wrong?

No you're doing it right. The reason: if you wanted all the sub-boards of a group to have the *same* access requirements, the correct way to accomplish that is to set the access requirements for the *group* instead.

    Ah thanks for that :)

Will a sub board access control override the group access control? If I set
the fidonet group access to 10 and say the z1 sysop to 60 which will it use?

Both. Users with level 10 will have access to (see) the message group and only users with level 60 (or higher) will see teh "z1 sysop" sub-board. If the user has access to none of the sub-boards within a group, they won't have access to the group at all (they won't see it).

Is the template sub the first sum in the group? The clone feature clones the settings for the first sub in the group to the rest (I've used that a lot too).
The template sub holds the settings for any additional subs created after the template was setup.

The template sub (as of v3.17) doesn't have to be the first sub in the group. Any sub-board can be used as the template for cloning, but the "Access Requirements" value is not included in the settings that are cloned.

That much have been changed closer to the actual 3.17 release than I've configured. I'm yet to update to the stable release. Probably several weeks away, because I have to wait until weather conditions ease a bit.
