• Question about bin kit

    From Plt@VERT/MB to DOVE-Net.Synchronet_Discussion on Friday, December 14, 2018 16:31:16
Sorry if I did not spell it right but I have a question about transferring mail. Both systems are running under windows 10 synchronet is the boss node 1:275/201.0 and Mystic is 1:275/201.100.

After creating a new net mail message I toss and fire up binkit and there mail bundle waiting to be sent out in the Synchronet fidonet directory but for some reason it’s connecting fine but the mail is not being transferred. I check the packet and it net mail and includes the correct headers.

Also all the network mail address and domains are setup correctly.

For some reason mail to points is not sent on a BINKOUT event. I'm not sure why that is.

Mail for points will be sent on a BINKPOLL event so you could use that to send mail to your point. Set BinkpPoll = true for your point and mail will be sent whenever that event runs.

Another option is to run "exec/jsexec binkit -l 1:275/201.100" from the command line in your sbbs directory. That's what I do on linux, the command may be a bit different on windows.

    Ttyl :-),
    Al

... Gee! How'd you ever get it to do THAT?

Mildly curious about this. When you have outbound mail waiting to be sent to a point, does "Unhandled/Unexpected point path" show up in your log during BINKOUT, or any other errors?

It appears that during this event, the script tries to do something with points, but I guess it isn't working. Problem could be in a few places.

Thanks - the detail is good in this case.

I wonder if the BINKOUT event is not looking in the outbound/*.pnt directories to see if there is mail/files to send?

Seems like it's seeing your point dirs during BINKOUT. As to why it doesn't send stuff from them, that'll need looking into. Maybe that's intentional (can't think why right now) or maybe it's a bug; will take a look later on.

Actually you're quite right, I didn't read those logs closely enough. It's not finding those point dirs; looks like it's supposed to, though. Will have to figure out what part of that is broken.

It works during BINKPOLL because (I think) it's grabbing a list of linked nodes from the config files and finding their outbounds from there, rather than crawling through a directory tree.

If you're willing to update to the latest version of binkit and run this test again, please let me know if it's working now. Points weren't being called during BINKOUT, but they should be now. (I did some basic testing here, but it'd be good to know that it's working in the real world.)

I had a look in the outbound/*.pnt directories and saw a couple of things in there waiting to go. I updated and ran the binkout event and I now see nothing in the outbound/*.pnt directories, except some stuff on hold.

    I think you've solved it.. :)

That's just a quick look I had.. but looks good.

If you're willing to update to the latest version of binkit and run

i was just trying to update but...

*** cvs update of EXEC directory ***
    cvs update -d exec
cvs [update aborted]: connect to cvs.synchro.net(71.95.196.36):2401 failed: Connection timed out

    :(

Points weren't being called during BINKOUT, but they should be now. (I
did some basic testing here, but it'd be good to know that it's
    working in the real world.)

i looked at that code block in the previous commit and thought about adding the
'*' to ".pnt" but i hadn't understood the code all that well at that point in time... besides, i've got numerous other areas to play in learning this new installation -=B-)

I had a look in the outbound/*.pnt directories and saw a couple of
things in there waiting to go. I updated and ran the binkout event and
I now see nothing in the outbound/*.pnt directories, except some stuff
    on hold.

    sounds right...

    I think you've solved it.. :)

the logs will tell the truth ;)

That's just a quick look I had.. but looks good.

i'll know really shortly after i get mine updated... right now i cannot connect
to vert for cvs and irc... i've not looked to see what else isn't connecting...

That was part of the problem. Even after fixing that, it wouldn't have picked up any points with a zone 1 address. Both of these things should be fixed now.

We had a about a 12 hour power outage last night. All should be good now.

I still haven't had a chance to sit down and look at the logs but the outbound is empty (except for stuff on hold) so I think it's working for points now.. :)

I couldn't connect last night either, but connected just now and it's up and running.

i think we can call it fixed, now... this point has been getting mail as soon as it is ready on the hub instead of the hub delivering it X times a day...
