• synchronet not reading dove-net for new messages

right now, my fidonet hub is semi-down
so I have been posting via dove-net most of the time, and poll regularly
for some reason I never seem to get a new message alert via dove-net, only via fidonet ?? shouldn't qwk/vert be where its seen first?

"new message alerts" ("so and so posted a message to on on some sub-board") is a feature of SBBSecho (for fido-style networks). Synchronet itself does not have this feature for QWK networks. You'll still receive the messages, you just don't get notified about each new message addressed to your name during logon. Are we talking about the same thing?

The message alerts come from SBBSEcho, but Dove-Net is distributed via QWK, and the qnet-ftp doesn't generate the new message alerts.

Sounds like the one. Yes, I noticed that too, found it a little "odd", but just accepted it as how Synchronet works and moved on. :) The fact that the FTN notifications are clearly labelled as being from SBBSEcho helped the penny to drop. :)

True, as I said, for me, no biggie, Multimail does a new messages scan too when I open the QWK packet. :D

yes, that would be correct - shouldn't synchronet be able to notify you of qwk network messages - otherwise, the only way *anyone* is going to see a reply to their message is if they read that area everytime.. not good if you were to have serveral qwk networks!

you can do a scan for YOUR msgs.

i would find it annoying to see popup msgs from every network and dont want it. ---

yup... i don't know of a way to turn it off on a per user basis... i'm sure it could be done and those entries flushed when the user logs off... do it when they logoff in case they decide to change the option and want to see them during that logon... unless they've read them already...

you can create a prompt to ask them, then have it set a flag.
then when they login, if they chose yes, it checks for the flag and runs the scan. flags are very very useful.

The message should appear automatically as part of a "new" scan or a "your message scan".

I've logged into Vertrauen and have noticed that SBBSEcho notifies me of new messages to me posted on Dove-Net. I thought SBBSEcho only worked with FTN networks and didn't work with QWK networks.. Unless you have Dove-Net set up via FTN for some BBSes?

That's correct. A few of the DOVE-Net conferences are gated to FidoNet and thus messages imported to you via SBBSecho in those conferences will send you notifications (if you have an account with the same name) here on Vertrauen.
