I had a disk-full situation here on Vertrauen over the weekend and lost the messages in this sub-board.

So if you asked a question in here recently or replied to someone else's message, that message may have been lost and you may want to re-post it.

Precisely. Some of my FidoNet export pointers were lost (and thus, inadvertedly "reset"). I've made some improvements to the code so the same situation won't happen to others if they run into the same scenario (no free disk space).

I had > 100GB of free disk space on Friday, but a run-away task created an unbounded number of syslog entries which eventually filled the disk and kept re-filling it as soon as there was any available space (e.g. a file was truncated or deleted).

I currently have roughly 261 MB of logs in /var/log. A lot to read there but good to have if you ever need to see what is happening on your system.

On my slackware box those logs are maintained by logrotate so they never get much bigger than that. I think logrotate has an option to compress the backups, (.1 - .4 in my case) but I have not looked at my logrotate.conf in for ever.
