I noticed Fidonet apparently is gone from Europe!!! I cannot se any traces of Node 2 anymore!
I was considering also joining Fidonet but given how things are I am not sure which lead to follow.

    Any recommendations/advise?

This is from the UK but nothing as far I know...

    Thanks a lot!

Looking at my most recent nodelist (from last week), it looks to me like there is still a Zone 2 (Europe) with plenty of nodes in there. In Zone 2, region 25 is UK and Ireland, and in there, network 250 is British Net and network 263 is Ireland Net. Ireland Net has only one node in it, but British Net has several.

One I wasn't being a dick about it and that statement was pointed to you.

I didn't say you were being a dick, but you certainly were complaining about being "TOLD" to read the docs, which you felt were incorrect.

The docs didn't lead you astray. The configuration error was your own. I just wanted to point that out lest you take this as a reason to avoid consulting the wiki in the future. There's a lot of useful info on there, and it would be a shame if you chose to avoid it.

Two I have thick skin spending years in the service and protecting you!

I apologized because I knew I was being rude, not because I assumed you were overly sensitive. I hope that thick skin is keeping you nice and warm up there on that high horse.

More likely he just set the path to '..xtrn/doors/dmud/' in scfg. Unless you p
ovide an absolute path (eg. starting with '/'), these paths are relative to you
ctrl directory. The resulting full path is showing up in the log.

Ahhh.... so the ../xtrn works because it says "one dir up from ctrl, then
back down xtrn". I did not know that. Glad I know it now! :)

    No worries!

See I have been running a BBS going back to 89 in those old school days people
a (sysop) would go out of is way to help other sysop's. The DOCS were not as
good or their were none. I'm old school and use to getting help from other
sysop's. The only guy I know of that was still like that passed away not to long ago. (Tim Cornett) that guy would spend days helping others.

As for you, you were right and I apologize.

But I'll still stay on my high horse.
    No wories...

We provide a lot of support to fellow sysops here. What we don't want to do is rewrite, rephrase, and repeat what's already written out on the wiki. That's a *lot* of needless typing, copying and pasting.

I get that being pointed at the wiki feels like a brush-off, but it isn't meant that way, and it isn't all that we do. It may not be what you're accustomed to, but it's still help.

If you find something unclear or missing from the documentation, or if the instructions didn't seem to work for you, by all means ask for more information, clarification, or help. This is where the docs can be built out more, or some troubleshooting of your setup can happen.

I'm agree with you Havok. I never could have kept my BBS going without the help of fellow SysOps. One ten minute phone call was worth 2000 words of Docs. The BBS software I used on had Manuals with index's that sucked. ;-)

Correct ".." means the parent directory to the current directory. So if you're sitting in /sbbs/ctrl and do "cd ../xtrn" then you're now in /sbbs/xtrn. :)

And that works regardless of where SBBS is installed, because the directory structure is the same below the main SBBS directory.

I like using relative paths like that because that makes it easier to move my BBS files if I ever wanted to. I run my BBS in Windows on a D drive, and not directly off the root directory (mine is in D:\BBS\sbbs), which is probably not like most other sysops' setups, and it works fairly well. I didn't have to go modify a bunch of paths for that to work.

if the docs dont suck, they are helpful. nowadays people dont like writing them and the undocumented features and other problems can snowball.
