• Food Fight Door Game

From Dmxrob@VERT/GUARDIAN to All on Monday, April 16, 2018 18:30:08
I have been digging around quite a bit, but haven't found anything about this door game. Food Fight! was one of my favorite games back in the late 80s to mid-90s era on BBSes. I would love to find this game up and running again somewhere, and ideally find a place to download it from. Has anyone seen it about or know if its still distributed?

    Hi! Dmxrob,

On 16 Apr 18 18:30, you wrote to All:

I don't have the original distribution archive but I have a copy of version 3.3
'frozen in time', from just before I shut down my first BBS back in '98. It was a hasty backup to floppy, just before the *big bang* that took out the entire PC. It was the most favoured game on the BBS at the time.

There is a download of a later version available at:

    http://archives.thebbs.org/ra92a.htm

Look for "ffb456.zip", towards the bottom. Enjoy.

    Cheers,
    Paul.

I have it for download over here, but I don't know if it's
    registerable anymore or not.

I do have a similar game called FoodWars, and it's freeware. You're a
student at Microlimp Junior High School, and you get in food wars with
the other students and staff. If you lose, you get apprehended by "Fat
Edna", and sent to Principal Gates office. <G>

There's a couple different flavors of Food Fight.

I'm most familiar with the version made for WWIV BBSes by Rigor Mortis. I used to include a copy of with Synchronet installs so you can find it running on a lot of Synchronet BBSes (e.g. bbs.synchro.net).

And then there's the more generic version for multiple BBS programs. You can find them both available for download on Vertrauen: ftp://vert.synchro.net/main/BBS/00index.html

I did post one question (with a lengthy setup) in IRC. What it boils down to:

I can make the game work if I manually edit the EXTERNAL.BAT and CHAIN.TXT files to use mapped drives. (e.g. "D:/CHAIN.TXT" instead of "/sbbs/node1/CHAIN.TXT")

But since Sync creates these files automatically, how can I tell it to use the mapped drives instead of the linux paths?

But since Sync creates these files automatically, how can I tell it to use the mapped drives instead of the linux paths?

No, there's no such option. :-( A DOSEMU-specific mod/patch could be made, but it'd most easily be done for *all* DOS doors (not just one in particular).

I just committed a change to xtrn_sec.cpp (part of the USE_DOSEMU patch set) to replace full paths with drive-letter-mappings for non-native doors on Linux (when USE_DOSEMU is defined). Try that and let me know how it works for ya.
