From Jon Justvig@VERT to All on Friday, April 06, 2018 17:10:25
    Hi people.

Just figured out what was going on why my events weren't running. I had changed my system to 8 nodes instead of of 10. My event was trying to run on node 10, but it didn't exist. So, I changed the event to node 8 and it ran. Imagine that. Anyway, I changed my SBBS system back to 10 nodes just in case any other events try to run, they will be able to. Also, the days were set
to OFF which I had turned on. Just my two cents for anyone that have issues with their events.

    Sincerely,
    Jon Justvig

    Jon,

I haven't had the demand to need more than 4 nodes...but most of the
logon attempts seem to be with bots. However, if I see repeated logon
attemps by a certain IP, and no response...or if SBBS puts a "temporary
ban" on an IP (I'll reset the control panel if a user's IP gets in there
for a bad password), then that IP goes into the IP.CAN file.

I've got a list of host name and domain suffixes in the HOST.CAN file, similar to what countries I already had with PeerBlock. I may try to run
the BBS without PeerBlock for a few days, and see if that helps end the intermittent crashes of the SBBS Control Panel.

Never alone, just lonely. But, you know what, I'm not going to feel that way. It takes failure to create success. If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. It's always usually the most obvious too that gets overlooked.

It's just the struggle of keeping the good ones in and the bad ones out. The bad ones make it rough for the good ones. Not just for IPs, but in a lot of things.

    Jon,

It's just the struggle of keeping the good ones in and the bad ones out. Th JJ>bad ones make it rough for the good ones. Not just for IPs, but in a lot of JJ>things.

With SBBS's email and FTP server, I have to tag the bad IP's both ways (forward and backward), and I put an asterisk at the end as a wildcard.
I also lowered the inactivity warning and disconnect timeout to 1 and 2 minutes, respectively...which lowers the "terminal not detected" timeout
to 30 seconds. Some days, these bots fill up all 4 nodes...and when I
see the same IP try multiple connects, it goes into the ip.can file.

As a side note, I'm trying SBBS without running PeerBlock, and so far,
no crashes in the control panel. But, I'd like a list of "country
codes/host name suffixes" that I can put in the host.can file.

    Jon,

It takes failure to create success. If at first you don't succeed, try, try JJ>again. It's always usually the most obvious too that gets overlooked.

The late W.C. Fields noted "If at first you don't succeed...try, try
again. Then quit. No use being a damn fool about it". <G>

He also said "I never drink water. Fish [have sex] in it". :P
