• Leviathans Reef 2.07

    From geoffreysammons8@VERT to alt.bbs.synchronet on Thursday, March 29, 2018 09:16:45
    From Newsgroup: alt.bbs.synchronet

I use to run RA BBS up to 1992. I do recall games requiring door.sys having issues with Remote Access. I am wondering if my issue is not the opposite since I am having Synchronet use door.sys toa game that shows all examples with Dorinf1.def (real names needs tobe enabled?)
Leviathans Reef ISSUE: Nodes in the reef file are setup correctly with line for node zero being blank (no local)and the other lines going to the proper node number with door.sys for each node. BBS side, I have path set correctly, multi enabled, GAP-Door.sys, run in node, I tried just REEF, REEF game %1 and tried REEF game %# in the command line. On client side (not local, node 1), I select the game and it just puts me back at selection in the door menu. I have NOT enabled real names in the door.sys.. I thought I would wait for reply since this is going to be a common issue on door setups that was designed more for dorinf than door sys and be good example for synchronet to use for the real name option of selecting door.sys (or anything else).
I have installed several doors on my own already after using the few sample setups for lord and ursurper. I did have issue with Kingdoms but realized it was carelessness of using kingdomS instead of kingdom for the excutable.
This is a local lan BBS (for now). It is for my kids and it will be live online for their friends to use after I get the hang of the easier functions and work my way up.
    Any help is appreciated :)
    teckkev
PS: Is there a way to still register games? There are a few I want to register (Ambrosia, Kingdoms, Imperium (registered back in 1990 but need key) and probably few more as I go along.

I'm not sure about your issues with Leviathans Reef or door.sys but registering doors is going to be pretty hit and miss.

A quick shout out for For Honour and Galactic Dynasty by apam. For Honour is a lord like game. I don't recall the website for them but they are available on from his BBS at exoticabbs.com:2023. There are windows versions available along with source. I read someone built the games on a Pi so folks running a Pi (as well as linux) can run those doors natively.

Those games are in development and don't require registration.

I am noticing the common problem I am having is where you need to run the game with cfg in the command line.. Example:

Deadly Nights: Vampire.exe game#.cfg (number for node)
    I tried: Vampire.exe game%#.cfg (%# for node number)
No go. I tried as a single node login as: Vampire game1.cfg
With game1.cfg having sbbs\node1 as the door.sys location. Still nothing.
I know these games using this type of command line are working on other Synchronet systems.. I know I am missing something (probably obvios too).

    Thanks,

Are you setting the startup directory? Perhaps if you pasted your config settings for the door in question (from SCFG) we could help you more.

Paths are correct and I will post my setting and game settings soon, but I have noticed the games come up with the same red square border stating error at bottom file not found. I went through odd ball txt file on one and it states to have ansi and share in config.sys (config.nt). I do have ansi, but not share.. what would I put in config.nt for share? Is it really need in config.nt?

I found 1 huge issue with the doors I solved.. I was being to clever with the command line. I was trying to get all doors running with straight commands instead of a batch file. I am currently going through the not working doors using bat files and so far so good. I will post my settings for any dors I still have problems with :) I don't want you to think your help is being ignored :)

    UPDATE:
    1) BAT files really resolved several issues with doors. If direct command line fails, use BAT :)
    2) Leviathians Reef needed the 'Working Directory' instead of Node Directory. Still set node path to real node# directory.
I did encounter an odd error on Murder Motel: My son can play the game, when I try (after he is done) on a separate workstation, I get 'overflow'. My name has a - in it (example: tom-jerry). Not sure if that can be the issue. I am going to work on that tonight.
I have few more to still fix which I am going to nuke and start fresh.
Thanks for patients in helping :)

I'm not familiar with this particular door but I am assuming it's a 16bit door.
    You can try the following:

Your door.cfg can start this way:

    c:\sbbs\node%wcnodeid\door.sys

    Command Line: vampire door.cfg /FD

The game may understand the %wcnodeid% as the actual node the game is being run from.

If not, then you're going to have to make specific door.cfg in the game folder as per the node being used. Start with door1.cfg. The first line would be: c:\sbbs\node1\door.sys. Next create door2.cfg. The first line in that would be c:\sbbs\node2\door.sys. Continue making door?.cfg files as to the total number of nodes you currectly have. If you have 10 nodes, then the last file would be called door10.cfg with the first line: c:\sbbs\node10\door.cfg

Your command line would then be: vampire door%#.sys /FD

This should do it for you.

If you notice my filename.. 1door.cfg <-- I am using separate cfg files :) I had my son help me so I can watch the server screen. Deadly Nights and Blood & Silver are giving overflow errors. Blood & Silver stated if this error happens, add STACKS-30,256 to Config.sys (Config.NT). I did that and still getting the error. We do know the door IS getting the drop file. Anyone know how to resolve the overflow error? It is in 2 door games and probably a 3rd I haven't revisited yet.
