• binkit secure session

From Al@VERT/TRMB to Digital Man on Monday, March 05, 2018 02:39:57
    Hello Digital Man,

Binkit is placing inbound files from secure sessions in my unsecure inbound. This is not a problem for sbbsecho it still tosses mail as expected but I thought you might like to know what I am seeing here.

Here is a snippit of my /var/log/messages

Mar 5 02:19:13 trmb synchronet: srvc 0053 BINKP connection accepted from: 67.6 1.21.181 port 54782
Mar 5 02:19:13 trmb synchronet: srvc 0053 BINKP Got inbound call from 67.61.21 .181:54782
Mar 5 02:19:13 trmb synchronet: srvc 0053 BINKP Inbound session for: 21:4/100@ fsxnet
    Mar 5 02:19:13 trmb synchronet: srvc 0053 BINKP Moving '/sbbs/temp/0000fffa.mo d' to '/sbbs/fido/inbound/0000fffa.mod'.
Mar 5 02:19:14 trmb synchronet: srvc 0053 BINKP service thread terminated (0 c lients remain, 0 total, 1 served)

    And this is from /var/log/syslog

Mar 5 02:19:13 trmb synchronet: srvc 0053 BINKP CRAM-MD5 of password does not match
Mar 5 02:19:13 trmb synchronet: srvc 0053 BINKP Non-secure session type: 'non- secure'

The sysop at 21:4/100 tells me that we do have a secure session when I poll with binkit and all is well at his end. I just don't seem to be able to send to my point, 21:4/106.1.

Well that would explain why you're getting files in your non-secure inbound (it's a non-secure session, or at least BinkIT thinks it is).

The sysop at 21:4/100 tells me that we do have a secure session when I poll with binkit and all is well at his end. I just don't seem to be able to send to my point, 21:4/106.1.

Enable debug log level output and paste a complete session here (remove passwords, if any) and I'll see if I can get Deuce to come take a look.

In my sbbs.ini I have changed my loglevel to debugging so I'll see if I can get better info. I have one last log snippet from BINKPOLL with debug logging.

I did pick up an inbound when that poll ran and it was placed in my secure inbound so that makes me think the BINKP service thinks the session is insecure but the BINKPOLL event does see the session as secure and I don't see any mention of CRAM-MD5 of password does not match in syslog for this time frame.

I had a similar problem, but the reverse (incoming were considered secure, but outbound, to the same link, were considered insecure). But that problem's been fixed.

Deuce may be able to help more than I and he's not active in DOVE-Net right now, so you might have a better chance of getting support in #synchronet at irc.synchro.net.

I have never been an IRC person. Used it once around 1998! I've read that the chat section can be modified to connect to irc.synchro.net but haven't done that yet. It just went to the top of my todo list so I will try to catch Deuce there.

    /sbbs/fido/outbound.015/00000001. pnt/0004006a.bsy failed.

Dos that .bsy file already exist? What are its contents? Maybe try deleting it?

No, there is only 00000001.clo and the listed .pkt files in there. I wonder if that .bsy file should be 00000001.bsy?

So the debug log detail for the non-working case (service/incoming BINKP) should help.

I think that was debug logging. In my sbbs.ini I have LogLevel=Debugging, or are there other steps I can take to increase the amount of logging?

Even if the filename is wrong, it shouldn't fail to create (take) the .bsy file.

I just committed some hopefully-helpful debug output to binkit.js. Can you update and retry and paste the output here (especially right before that ".bsy failed." message)?

So the debug log detail for the non-working case (service/incoming BINKP) should help.

I think that was debug logging. In my sbbs.ini I have LogLevel=Debugging, or are there other steps I can take to increase the amount of logging?

There should be a lot more log output when full debug log output is enabled (e.g. M_NUL lines and such).

For incoming BINKP connections, those come into the service, so the log level would be configured in your services.ini file for those.

It is echomail from 21:4/106 being sent directly to 21:4/106.1.

... and I think that outbound directory calculation is now fixed. I'm guessing you didn't actually have a "00000001.pnt" directory, but rather a "0004006a.pnt" sub-directory (off of outbound.015)?

Yes, I have 0004006a.pnt, that's the only directory in outbound.015.

Okay, that explains why it couldn't create the .bsy file (the directory in which it was trying to create it didn't exist). :-)

reminds me of a lot of the "spell checkers" that come with todays devices. you type it, spell it, and word it just right, and the spell checker screwes it all up.

turns it into millenial talk.. so apple and googles largest marketshare can understand it.
