• Geek Squad? Buahaha! LOL!

The other day I was in the local Best Buy here at the HIP (Harlem-Irving
Plaza) here in Chicago, IL. They've totally redone half the mall, so I walk
in not knowing where anything is at. I ask the guy at the front desk and he points me in the proper direction.

I walk over to the networking isle where a badly balding guy in his mid-40's dressed up with an "Access Granted - GEEK SQUAD" badge hanging from his belt. He was in the proccess of explaining to the illiterate customer about how "a wireless network card might not work with a router thats a different
brand name than the card" ... as I stand there thinking how full of shit
this guy is and that it doesn't mater anymore than it does that my SMC NIC
can communicate with my Linksys Router JUST FINE -- he begins to further explain and brag about how all Geek Squad reps are highly trained within
the field of computers. Yes, highly trained at being completely full of shit it seems. What some people will do for a sale.

He then proceeds to point to the most expensive Wireless NIC on the shelf, claiming that "This one will be much better for use out doors!" when maximum distance depends on the MHZ range, NOT wether you are in or out doors...

After finally concluding his shit spewing session to the clueless customer,
I announce "hey, can I get some of that Geek Squad customer support?!"
he proudly says "Sure! What can I help you with today?!" ... I explain
that I am looking for a double female connector to plug in and merge two RJ45 connections using Cat5e Networking cable. He promptly takes me over to the correct shelving unit, where according to Best Buy and Geek Squad's well
known reputation for convinience, reliability and promptness -- they were
of course -- *OUT OF STOCK* with the item that I needed.

He told me I should goto Radio Shack within the same mall, and as a loyal Best Buy Employee, pronouned that he "always goes to *RADIO SHACK* for all of his networking needs!" ...

Now being able to eliminate my impatience -- I promptly go into attack mode
as I had been anxiously wanting to do for the last five minuites! "It's time
to put this guy in his place!" I thought to myself!

I started to explain about Osprey Radio Networks (run by BBS Sysops to enlighten people of all the scams ans BS out there) and going into further detail about a show we have called Pointless Audio. I explained that we call up companies to see how on the level (or full of shit) they are and procceed to broadcast that on the Internet Radio Station.

I explained that when we called Geek Squad, not once but MULTIPUL TIMES, they assured us that we can install Windows 95 on a Comodore 64, and that we
should bring it right into the nearest Best Buy store! I also explained
how Microsoft and CompUSA reacted, seeing as Geek Squad said we should
also continue in our inquiry with Microsoft themselves.

I explained that Microsoft did not seem to know what a "Comodore 64" was, but they were pretty certian that Microsoft did not support that. I also
explained we called CompUSA, where the Tech Rep bluntly told us that whoever said that was an idiot.

At a loss for words, and sweatting bullets, he said "Umm...well...uhh... I really can't comment on that!" ... I replied with "Oh I know you can't!
I just thought you might be interested in hearing the story! I found it
kind of odd that Geek Squad would claim such a thing was possible!" ... without even a rebuttle, he dashed away from me to the nearest customer
in distress -- as I walked away and said as loudly as I could -- "For more information on Pointless Audio, be sure to goto www.ospreynet.info!"
and walked out the door and headed over to Radio Shack.

I explained to the Radio Shack people (who had the part I needed in full stock!) what had happened, and they laughed their assess off and requested
the URL to Osprey Radio Networks!

If only I had a cam corder! That was DEFINATELY a Kodak Moment!

OMIGOD!!! I LOVE IT!!! I've done the same thing. Listening to these guys talk to poor illiterate customers talkin' out their ass. They always make t same pitch for the most expensive items, cuz the commission percent is usual higher on high end products. I didn't think that Best Buy sold on commissio but why would these guys give a damn about which item they sold? I stood ri there in front of this Geek Squad idiot and talked a customer out of buying $300+ printer. All she wanted was something to print out her papers for college. She bought one for $89. To say the least, he was pissed!!! I actually thought it was funny.

Well, there was no need to talk the customer out of anything because he
seemed to be there on a research mission only. He didn't pick up that
wireless NIC and walk to the front with it. He didn't appear to have bought anything. They could technically kick you out of the store for that. However if they asked me to leave, i'd simply say "Make sure you know the
consiquences before you take action. The consiquences for removing me from
the store will be to report this store for fradulent sales" ... you could really nail these idiots by taking a hand held tape recorder, pre-recording your statements of being knowledgable and that you only need a simple printer that they have for under $100 and you're going to see if the sales guy tries to rip you off. Then you walk up to the sales guy, start recording and say
you have a very hard time remebering things, and ask if it would be ok if you recorded him explaining what you need to purchase. Of course he'd say yes in
a moment of arrogance and be bragging his fool head off like this twit did in front of me. Then you now have on tape his bullshit WITH his verbal
permission to record his bullshit. After he's done and you tell him you'll think about it and he walks away. Verbally notate the other printer sitting right there for $89, the model # and all details of both printers, and
proceed to make copies of the tape and send that in to your local news stations. Might be good for a few laughs :-)

I LOVE IT.... that is perfect.... I must remember to take my recorder with m with fresh tape and batteries the next time I visit Best Buy. These guys LO to brag about their ignorance!!! THANK YOU!!!!

I doubt they'd let a cam corder in (security reasons) but a tape recorder or something that records audio would do nicely. Just remeber to get him to SAY HIS NAME on the recording! <G> :-)
