this is a test of the emergency usenet system. this is only a test
Had this been a real post, it would have had a topic, a point, and warned of impending nuclear attack and the overall end of the world. :-)
1. Proceed to the hallway. 2. Kneel down facing the wall. 3. Place
head between legs. 4. Kiss a** goodbye!
Sorry. Couldn't resist! :D
There wouldn't be time lol
A nuclear shock wave travels at the speed of sound. If a nuke went off
in downtown Chicago, it would take about 5 seconds before there was not even enough left of my neighborhood for alien archiologists 10,000 years from now to determine that there was ever once life on this planet. lol
I would feel sorry for the people in the outskirts of the shock wave. Not powerful enough to instantly vaporize anyone. They'd get to burn to death for about 5 mins.
People alittle farther out get to die over the next 30 days from radiation poisoning.
I think you'd have to be at least 150 miles away to not be effected. If your closer in -- even if your car can do 300mph you wouldn't have enough time to get far enough away to not be screwed.
I've heard the US Government SUPPOSEDLY (and i personally think they do) has low level environmentally safe nukes. Blow up a city, radiation clears within a few days, march in and take over. Why blow a country so far to hell that it won't be able to support life for the next 1,000 years -- when you can just destroy the cities and march in and take it over?
However I doubt anyone firing at *US* would be as nice or as smart. With conventional nukes -- EVERYONE loses a nuclear war. Even the countries not participating in it.
The whole planet would go into a nuclear winter. Provided of course so many nukes didn't go off that the atmosphere was completely burned away.
Then all of Earth's water would drift into space and the planet would look something like the larger version of Mercury.
