    Hello DM,

Was just thinking when I was replying to yourself and many other people earlier

I think it would be cool to be able to REPLY to a message, but NOT only to the author, it would be nice to be able to CC that message to the person that author was replying to also.

When I was reading messages I would want to reply to the message, but on some I did'nt exactly want the reply to go to the author I was replying to, I was wanting the reply to go to YOU also, or ONLY.. I know you can always just DELETE the name and type in whoever, but I would like to find a way to send a reply to the originating user and a Carbon Copyy to the User that the Originating user was replying to. or others.. (up to 3 replys down the tree)

I don't know if this exist.. I don't think it does, but do believe it would be a cool addition to the BBS.

When you reply to the user, it should ask, Would you like to send a CC to the originating user of this thread?

    just an idea.

what address are you telnetting to? it was offline yesterday most of the day while I updgraded to CentOS.

the kk4qbn.com address I have to update the UP address manualy and sometimes it I forget to check on it because I'm too cheap to purchase a dynamic IP

the kk4qbn.synchro.net address should always work.

    When did you try telnetting?

    just an idea.

Are you talking about email or public messages?

public messages.. when replying, in the To: field one can type, Digital Man, Echicken, Deuce, etc..

Okay, but it would still just create a single message (not 2 or 3 or 4 identical messages)?

The main problem there (assuming a single message with multiple recipients) is that the relevant networking technologies (e.g. QWK and FTN) don't support the concept of multiple "To" fields. Synchronet could do it, but it wouldn't be very easy getting the message in-tact over existing networks.

Is the main purpose so that all the recipients can find the message easily by performing a "your message search"? Or is there some other purpose?

Actually the threading feature doesn't use the "to" field at all. Multiple "to" fields wouldn't make any difference there. Have you used the '*' (view thread command)?

I know what it is.. you polled bbslinkNet off me right? well after I shut it down you did'nt stop the ftp polls and my system put you in the IP.CAN.. Lemme Fix that..

Ok.. I deleted about 500 entries of NOJO in the hack log.. because after I deactived BBSLinkNetwork I deactivated the accunts oilling it, because I sent close to 10 reminders out to quit polling for mail so I deactivated them, I STILL have sustems poling for mail..

    Thanks for the heads up!

Thats sweet.. but I still think it would be cool to send a message to (you) and the person who replied to you. from the To: field, without any fuss and the frustration f having t go the sysop menu and copy that message to another user.sub..

another thing that would be cool (may exist) is sending the same message to multiple user from the TO: Field.

Ok, some where along the line I missed the message to stop polling so that is the problem. I have stopped it here now so my system will not poll anymore.

Are still talking about public message (posts on sub-boards)? Normally, you wouldn't want two identical messages in the same message area, even if the "to" field were different.

What you're not realizing here is that some people do full message newscans, rather than only messages addressed to oneself. Ones that do full newscans would see every single message you've CC'd as well as your original. Multiple messages of the same content = duplicate messages, and would not be caught in dupe checkers because the header would be altered (the TO field).

And the BCC would not work because the person you sent it to would see the message also went to the "blind copy" recipient.

    Tim,

I know what it is.. you polled bbslinkNet off me right? well after I shut it K>down you did'nt stop the ftp polls and my system put you in the IP.CAN.. Lemm K>Fix that..

I was in a similar deal, but when you got out of the network (for all
the "game play bitching", as it were), I decided to kill the network
over here. Plus, with using Peerblock (which is a help in dealing with
the bots), I couldn't access any of the games in BBSLinkNet.

Also, I saw in the Synchronet Group on Facebook that Keith Cunningham
has created a CAPTCHA deal for Synchronet BBS Sysops. The only
requirement is that you're running a Matrix logon with the Baja module.
For example, I'm using the AceMatrix logon in C:\SBBS\BAJA\ACEMTRX --
he's working on a deal for me right now.

When I ran Virtual Advanced, Steve Winn created a similar deal for
VADV32 -- those failing the CAPTCHA test got their IP automatically put
into the trash can...and I think I had it set for 30 days. With SBBS,
even if I see "temporary ban of [ip address]", I put it in the ip.can file...permanently locking them out.
