• SBBS.DLL crash - can't find a cause

From Deepthaw@VERT/DS94 to Digital Man on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 21:39:06
I've been finding this event and a nonresponsive BBS several times recently:

Reporting queued error: faulting application sbbsNTsvcs.exe, version 0.0.0.0, faulting module sbbs.dll, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x0005e8f0.For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

The events immediately before it (originating from SynchronetWeb) look pretty uninteresting.

    Description:
    1328 HTTP Logon (user #2)

    Description:
    1328 Request resolved to: C:\sbbs\web\root\index.xjs

    Description:
    1328 Result: HTTP/1.1 200 OK

    Description:
1328 JavaScript: Done executing script: C:\sbbs\exec\xjs_handler.js (0.08 seconds)

    Description:
    1328 Sending file: C:\sbbs\temp\SBBS_SSJS.8224.1328.html (0 bytes)

    Description:
    1328 Request resolved to: C:\sbbs\temp\SBBS_SSJS.8224.1328.html

And that's the last entry before the crash. I turned on debug level logging for the terminal services because I assume that was where the crash was happening, but now I'll have to turn it back on for everything...

Try increasing your JavaScript resources (memory). Start by doubling the values in SBBSCTRL:File->Properties->JavaScript. See if that helps. It's not really a *solution* but could be an effective work-around.

I as getting issues like this when I cut resourses to my JS to 2mb per instance. I did'nt have much choice on my old machine. but then I tweaked it a bit and ended up at 5 at it worked decently, but the web was still real sluggish, and games like LEMONS would not play.

now I have them set to 0 since I'm on a better machine.. there's times when stuff still gets congested, but so far, so good.
