• SMBUTIL PROBLEM

From Daryl Stout@VERT/TBOLT to ALL on Saturday, July 01, 2017 09:02:00
    DM and Mojo,

Two of the echoes in one of my QWK Networking setups (specifically RadioWxNet) are erroring out with SMBUTIL, but postings with all the
other echoes in there and elsewhere seem to work.

The command line structure, with the 2 areas in question is:

    SMBUTIL -c -i -tAll -f"Daryl Stout" -s"Todays Shack Safety Tip" ic:\hambltns\shksft00.txt c:\sbbs\data\dirs\subs\radwxnt-5005.shd

    AND

    SMBUTIL -c -i -tAll -f"Daryl Stout" -s"Todays New Gear Tip" ic:\hambltns\newrig00.txt c:\sbbs\data\dirs\subs\radwxnt-5013.shd

Both of them get this error when run:

!Error -200 (2 'No such file or directory' opening c:\sbbs\data\dirs\subs\radwxnt-5005.shd) opening c:\sbbs\data\dirs\subs\radwxnt-5005 message base

    AND

!Error -200 (2 'No such file or directory' opening c:\sbbs\data\dirs\subs\radwxnt-5013.shd) opening c:\sbbs\data\dirs\subs\radwxnt-5013 message base

Yet, even if I go in and manually enter a message, or forward a
message through the QWK Reader (OLX), it posts OK. And, those are the
only 2 message areas that I'm having problems with...but they're set up
    just like the others.

Any idea what I may be doing wrong?? The syntax works fine for all the
    other message areas.

The path to the message base looks incorrect:

    Change c:\sbbs\data\dirs\subs\... to c:\sbbs\data\subs.

The "data/dirs" directory is for file bases.

Was on your BBS earlier and it was really bogged down for some reason, tried a couple of other BBS's just to make sure it wasn't on my end.
    the other BBS's were fine.

My uplink is'nt too quick, spambots stay active all the time, there are times I would presume it slows to a crawl.

I could see why this would be the issue if the BBS calling was uploading a fairly large rep file and it timed out. I've even quadroupled my QWK timeout in ftp settings.

there are other systems that call in with no issues whatsoever.

The REP file I've been trying to upload has been tiny, a single message.

there are other systems that call in with no issues whatsoever.

I was having similar problems until I played with the PASV settings and opened up some ports to forward specifically for FTP transfers (in addition to port 21).

Check out http://wiki.synchro.net/faq:tcpip#ftp_nat if you haven't already.

I've got all PASV ports routed to my BBS machine, the BBS machine is also setup in a DMZ zone. so thats not the issue.

we have to figure out why you are timimg out when uploading a rep file. you will not get a qwk packet until it is uploaded or done away with, and we cant have that :) I'm all out of ideas, everything checks out over here and afaik all other nodes apart from tbolt are connecting correctly and I never see tbolt connect he must have it set to 1 time a day or something.

Caffeine will cause your colon to get active...see the tagline below.

But, caffeine also has oxylates, which for some people, like me, leads
to excruciatingly painful kidney stones and catheters. :P
