I have noticed some synchro BBS's that have a different style login screen that has options on it like:

LOGON
SIGN UP
FEEDBACK
PAGE SYSOP
LOGOFF

When you first connect giving you other option and not just a username and password prompt.
Is this an option already built in Synchro BBS, or is it some kind of add on that needs to be installed?

What you're describing is usually called a "matrix" login. There is a sample that comes with Synchronet (exec/matrix.bin) that can be used (in place of login.bin), and there are many 3rd party ones too.
