so yeah, 106 seconds is a long time to wait... really weird, though, is that some things are pretty quick... on the order of just a few seconds... that might be due to caching but i checked some pages that i've never been to before
as well as some that i know have been updated recently... the ANSI page i never
saw before and there was a delay of tens of seconds on it but other larger pages like the unix install page and the requesits page popped right up in less
    than 5 seconds...

FWIW: i know the above is going to be hard to read on an 80 column screen... i can redo it as a picture or as a text file if DM or anyone else is interested in a cleaner wide view of it... it is just a text capture from firefox's Developer->Performance tool...

    1. I host wiki.synchro.net.

    2. I don't like hosting my stuff off-site, especially when there is dynamic content and authentication involved, like the wiki has. I have 5 Mb/s upstream which should be plenty.

    3. I just tested it from Northern California, and it appears to be responding fast.

I've had slow response times from Georgia, but not bad enough to make me go away, I usually swap over to whatever project I'm working on until the wiki pages load. what is strange though is that YOU host wiki and it is so much slower than anything else you host.. it might be somethign other than bandwidth, and/or speed.

    Definitely should be, however..

It just took 15-20 seconds for wiki.synchro.net to load up here.

Do you by chance have IPv6 but you're not currently using it? If so, is there an AAAA record set for your domain?

It may be trying to connect via IPv6 first for people that have it, and taking awhile to revert to IPv4.

If it's not that, I have no idea what it could be.. but it's been taking longer
than normal to load for quite some time now, and it has been mentioned before by multiple people as well. *shrug*

good thought except that we don't have IPv6 here... we just got an upgrade on our DSL and it does bring IPv6 along but IPv6 cannot travel through my firewall
and it is completely disabled on the internal LANs... i just loaded it in my browser and it is definitely faster today than it was the other day... i also ran a traceroute which was pretty fast as well...

Hmph, I don't know then. Just now it took over 15 seconds to load again, no real difference from any other time in the past year or two (or more) I've visited the wiki.

Not for me. Maybe newer versions of Firefox have issues now connecting to unsecure and/or non-private sites that take your login credentials?

there are many advantages when hosting content on commercial servers.
all i know is the site was very slow to load when i tried it and it has been very slow in the past to load.

    3. I just tested it from Northern California, and it appears to be responding fast.

I am performing a massive sync to Onedrive that won't be done for days. Since these complaints, I've thottled those uploads to 1Mb/s. I'm guessing when the Onedrive sync is done (which will be longer now), the responsiveness will improve.

just tried it again and it took 1 minute to load the welcome page.

    1. I host wiki.synchro.net.

    i know i was joking.

i dont know why you are numbering your replies.

Maybe to help you get the point.. did'nt sound like a joke to me.. or at least I did'nt get a chuckle out of it..

(don't think anyone else did either imho)

    :-)

there are many advantages when hosting content on commercial servers.
all i know is the site was very slow to load when i tried it and it has been very slow in the past to load.

The wiki has always seemed to be slower than any other services he hosts on my part at least.. here lately.. I presume maybe it was because the backup.. I have'nt utilized it in a while now.

Just clicked the link for espanol (no chance of cache), took 6 seconds to load.

    I can deal with that..

Remember the "good ol days" when it took 45 minutes to download a nudie picture with square pixelated boobies over modem? haha.

i just tried it again and it loaded up quick. it could be the internet toobs are clogged or not connecting as well or it could be the wiki is being hit by an attacker or someone who is trying to mirror it.
