I am trying to reset the newsgroup pointer for alt.bbs.wildcat and its not working.

I tried using:

AREA NGWCBBS alt.bbs.wildcat - ui
AREA NGWCBBS alt.bbs.wildcat - ri 500

no spaces
and are you sure you have the syntax correct?
it's been years so dont know about that. just know that you have spaces there in the - ri and shouldnt

Look at http://wiki.synchro.net/module:newslink, under "Area Flags". You have a '-' where the flags value would go and "500" where the "attachment directory" should go (if you want one).

I think what you meant to put in your newslink.cfg was either:

AREA NGWCBBS alt.bbs.wildcat ui

or:

AREA NGWCBBS alt.bbs.wildcat ri

Depending on what your definition of "reset the newgroup pointer" is.
