I tried downloading the latest version of the dev version of syncterm; Wed
    Jan 20 2016 11:00:54 2218.142K; for petascii.

copied it to a folder or installed it and I keep getting the error.

the procedure entry point_difftime64 could not be located in the dynamic link library msvcrt.dll

I tried looking for a newer version of msvcrt.dll for WINDOWS XP X64 SP2, but didn't find one that fixed the syncterm crash.

to me it looks like your using a newer mfc compiler that isn't backwards compitable with xp64 sp2.

I don't generally recommend running the dev builds. The latest release on SourceForge is the version most likely to work. There haven't been any PETSCII related changes for a number of years now (though I'm happy to add a mapping for "impossible" keystrokes if there's a good one out there).

I don't support Windows XP (or use an "mfc compiler").
