Run "jsexec update.js" in your "exec" directory.

I've noticed with messages coming to me on the BBS, the following error:
! ERROR OPENING C:\SBBS\EXEC\SHOWMSGAVATAR.BIN
The Sysop has been notified.
I have been downloading updates of SBBS_DEV.ZIP, and the last one I grabbed was on Jan. 14, 2018. I'll grab the Jan. 15, 2018 version, and see if I have any better luck.
You need to update your exec and exec/load directories too.

Rob,
You need to update your exec and exec/load directories too.
I know the /exec is in sbbs_dev.zip -- but where do I get the items for /exec/load ??

It is in the file sbbs_run.zip in there you will find the exec directory and M>that is the load directory.
Hope this helps

Jay,

I didn't see a load directory in there.
When I ran the deal, I ended up losing much of my data.
So, I had to restore from a backup from Dec.
30, 2017.
I think I'll just wait until SBBS 3.17 is fully released.

Okay. But you should also probably practice unzipping without
over-writing important files. It's a skill every sysop should have. ;-)
I have moved back to debian and now I'm having JSON issues with syncwx for some reasone (never EVER had that problem before) buth trithfully I just now think I have my JSON server working CORRECTLY so I'll get around to it soon
When I ran the deal, I ended up losing much of my data.
Ran what deal?
It sounds like you over-wrote files in your CTRL directory. Don't do that.

I like the challenge, but always keep backups of my best working execuatables

Unzipped all the directories from SBBS_RUN.ZIP into C:\SBBS -- I was unaware I shouldn't do that.

I used WinRAR...but I wasn't aware the \load directory was UNDER
\exec.
Re: Error
If this is syncWXremix, the JSON problems are probably caused by the Weather Underground API spitting out something unexpected. This has been happening to a few people lately. It looks like Ken added in some error handling to deal with this a couple of days ago, so you may want to update.
To the best of my knowledge, syncwx does not use the JSON-DB server; any problems you're having with the two are unrelated.

If you've been getting the error for a while and no message base maintenance is running (e.g. smbutil, chksmb, etc.), then just delete the file c:\SBBS\data\subs\dove-deb.lock

That sounds like something trying to do something with a sub-board or message in a sub-board when something else already has it open and locked. It would be good to know what you were doing when that error was generated. And when that happens, try to see if anything else has that same sub-board or message open.

I usually get that message when I post a duplicate message to my message base, like my monthly BBS ad. Do you have dupe checking turned on?

From the error.log file.
That's from json-service.js. Check your ctrl/json-service.ini file, and for any json scripts (e.g. doors) that are specified, double-check that their *.json files aren't corrupted somehow.
If you look at the activity log output (e.d. data/logs/MMDDYY.log) from that date/time, you should be able to easily correlate which script/door is triggering the error to narrow down your search. --
