    From Deepend@VERT/RDBBS to All on Thursday, December 03, 2015 21:01:26
    Anyone that uses ecwebv3 having any troubles with the email function? Not sure if its an issue since I'm not running a standard web port (port 8856 instead of 80 as my ISP blocks 80) or if its something else going on with the page.

    As it stands now when I click on the email link it only goes to the page and says "loading..." and goes no further.

    Have no errors showing up anywhere so not even sure where to begin looking.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    I've just updated web/root/ecwebv3/pages/999-email.ssjs with a change that should get around your problem.

    Ultimately, the best fix for an ecWeb v3 problem is to not use ecWeb v3. If you're feeling adventurous, you could always ditch ecWeb and try its successor:

    Yeah I'm having a problem viewing an e-mail. When I click on the e-mail I want to view, all I get is an option to reply and delete. Which neither one works. So here's your first feedback.

    I'm still running ecwebv2 on realitycheckBBS.org, but I'm mostly using it as a CMS to serve a couple of pages and host a ftelnet page.

    The new version looks good, but for some reason both the Synchronet ANSI and my custom ANSI look garbled. V4 looks and feels much more polished than any other web to BBS interface I've seen, looking forward to it.

    I've fixed these and a couple of other related bugs.

    Changed files were:

    web/lib/forum.js
    web/root/js/forum.js

    Method of updating depends on how you chose to install this in the first place, but at worst you can just grab those files piecemeal from the repository and overwrite your local copies.

    I suspect that I'll want to move this to the Synchronet CVS soon, for ease of updating and notifying users. Just need to decide on a place for it.

    Hmm, not sure what to tell you. I sent an email (from my BBS) to my account on your system, then replied to it from your web interface, and received the reply on my BBS - so it's working for me.

    One of the changes was to a client-side javascript file, so you might try clearing your browser cache (or doing a ctrl-F5, ctrl-r, cmd-r, etc. to reload the page) to make sure that it's updated.

    It looks like you have it almost working, but I apparently left a crucial bit out of the setup instructions. Your 'Games' section works for me up to a point, but just short of actually loading the intended game.

    I've updated the instructions, and here's what I added:

    - Open your mods/logon.js file or, if it doesn't exist yet copy your
    exec/logon.js file to mods/logon.js and then open it.

    - Add the following block of code to the top of the file, under the line that
    says load('sbbsdefs.js'):

    if (bbs.connection.toUpperCase() === 'RLOGIN' &&
    typeof xtrn_area.prog[console.terminal] !== 'undefined'
    ) {
    bbs.exec_xtrn(console.terminal);
    bbs.hangup();
    exit();
    }

    bbs.exec_xtrn(console.terminal);
    bbs.hangup();
    exit();
    }

    That looks a lot like this code in the stock (in CVS) version of logon.js:

    // Check if we're being asked to auto-run an external (web interface external programs section uses this)
    if (options && (options.rlogin_auto_xtrn) && (bbs.sys_status & SS_RLOGIN) && (console.terminal.indexOf("xtrn=") === 0)) {
    var external_code = console.terminal.substring(5);
    if (!bbs.exec_xtrn(external_code)) {
    alert(log(LOG_ERR,"!ERROR Unable to launch external: '" + external_code + "'"));
    }
    bbs.hangup();
    exit();
    }

    Could you use the same syntax ("xtrn=<code>") so that the stock logon.js would just work as-is?

    I think I can see where the 'does nothing' part might be coming from, and I'll do something about that shortly. It's probably doing something, but slowly - and could be interrupted sooner than it is.

    It's been a while since I worked on this particular bit, but I suspect this means that you have some files in one of your 'data/dirs/' subdirectories that don't have records in your file database. I'll look at making the message more informative so you can locate the file in question - but it's just an informational message and can be ignored.

    Got it, thanks for the reply.

    Sounds like ecweb[v3] isn't setting the "from_ext" msg header field to the sending user number.

    If you're feeling adventurous, you could always ditch ecWeb and try its successor:
    https://github.com/echicken/synchronet-web-v4

    I have been using this for a couple months, and I think it's awesome work! Since it's built on Bootstrap, I definitely want to try customizing the look, but I haven't been able to find the time to do it yet.

    My main hangup has been logging in. Usually the first time I submit my credentials, the "Who's Online" sidebar shows me as being online, but the rest of the page acts as if I haven't logged in. I can't access the Message Boards, Files, etc. (these are restricted on my BBS so guests can't see them)

    I usually have to log in 4-5 times before it finally seems to "stick."

    Ouch. That doesn't happen to me. Usually I still see the 'Log in' link on the first page load after I have actually authenticated, but it goes away after I load some other page. Anyway, it's annoying and I'll see what I can do.

    Yeah It isn't working. I thought it was, but I was wrong.

    Hmm. I just tested it on your BBS, and it appears to be working. I'll need some more info then. What kind of mail are you sending - is it addressed to a local username, to an internet email address, or to some other kind of network address?

    Be aware that the 'Sent' list isn't like a typical 'Sent items' email folder. It's not an authoritative list, it's a bit confusing, and it's probably borderline useless. Messages will disappear from that list frequently and for totally legitimate reasons. (This makes me think it should just be removed.)

    In the case of local mail, the 'sent' item that you see is the same copy of the message that the other party would see in their inbox. If the receiving party deletes that message, then it will disappear from their inbox and your 'Sent' list at the same time. (Note that if they're picking up their mail via POP3, their client is probably deleting the message once it's been downloaded.)

    In the case of internet email, the message is (from my observation, anyway) marked as deleted after Synchronet has successfully delivered it.

    Unrelatedly, I've updated 'web/lib/forum.js' again, to fix another problem related to sending local private mail.

    Glad to hear it. I recently tried all of the themes available from https://bootswatch.com/ and they worked nicely, which was good to see.

    When using a darker colour-scheme, it's probably desirable to make some changes to web/root/css/style.css. A few rules are applied in there beyond what a Bootstrap stylesheet usually provides. I recently did a bit of streamlining on that stylesheet to make it easier to change the appearance of many types of similar elements at once.

    Thanks for the great work you do!

    Well, thanks for switching to the newer web interface. It's been great to get all of the feedback and bug reports from everybody who's been trying it out so far. I've been dragging my heels on it a bit, so this has helped me to get moving again.

    I will have to try that one out.. There is actually a theme I really wanted to use but it broke the dropdown menus.. https://kristopolous.github.io/BOOTSTRA.386/

    Really is my style.. (goes well with my main website retrodigital.net)
    But really do like the more modern look.

    Will test out some of those themes on bootswatch.com and see how they look.

    I've looked at that one, and I think it will require a customized layout script (index.xjs). I plan on making an example at some point, because I do expect a few people would want to use it.
