• Setting up Echomail and Areas.bbs

From Xucaen@VERT/TIMEPORT to All on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 23:09:27
Hi, a do appologize if I am posting this in the wrong area. My thinking was that this conernc SBBS so it seemed like the appropriate place.

I need information about how to set up Fidonet Echomail areas in SBBS. I know that I can import the Areas.bbs file, but ther only place where I could find information on how to set up Areas.bbs was in my SQUISH document. ;-)

I am assuming SBBSecho can read that format, which is

    <path> <tag> <nodes>
Where <path> is the directory to the area, <tag> is the Fidonet area tag name, and <nodes> are the feed nodes.

If this is not what SBBS import and SBBSecho are expecting, what is the correct format?

Once I get that out of the way, I wanted to know if there was a way to specify per Echomail area whether or not to use real names or aliases. I seem to recal some Fidonet Echo areas requiring the use of real names when posting. I can see in SCFG under Fidonet Group Requirements we have the ability to require Age, Level, etc.. but I don't see requiring real names. How would I go about doing this?

Thank you all and take care!

No, the correct format (for SBBSecho) is documented here: http://synchro.net/docs/sbbsecho.html#AREAS.BBS

Yes, in SCFG->Message Areas, each sub-board can be configured to use real names or aliases.

Many thanks for the link. I actually had read that before and made an Areas.bbs from the example listed there but had not imported - I didn't want to import anything untill I fully understood what it was going to do. I did a little experiment last night - I added my own test area: "TEST MYTEST -1/-1" and imported, but I did not see any changes right away (I had been expecting to see a c:\sbbs\TEST directory created). Later, I logged in through the web server and still didn't see anything under the Fidonet board, but I had to click on the sub-boards link to make it appear. The dove-net sub-boards always seem to be visible by default so I had thought I messed up the Areas.bbs somehow. Although I did find the files in the c:\sbbs\data\subs, but thought maybe I really messed it up and added dove-net sub board instead. lol. Anyways...

Is there a text config file that I can edit to change all the settings? It might be faster than editing one at a time in SCFG. I loked through the ctrl directory, looking for sbbs.cfg or area.cfg or something like that but didn't see one. The .cab and .cnf files seem to be binary.

Thanks! I guess I keep getting lost under all the sub dialogs. ;-) I found it under the <tag>Sub Board -> Toggle Options.

I must say, sbbs is an amazing piece of software. I'm beginning to see it really can do just about anything. :)

Take care, and thanks for your help!

Sub-boards are normally created in your sbbs/data/subs directory. And they are not a directory themselves, but a collection of files (with the internal code as the base filename).

You can export your subs to a "SUBS.TXT" file and them re-import that file.

    It

The .cnf files are binary. Not sure what .cab files you're referring to.

    You're very welcome.
