• Setting up mailer for fidonet

From Xucaen@VERT/TIMEPORT to All on Sunday, November 15, 2015 13:58:30
Hi everyone, I am trying to get either binkD or Argus/radius (I have tried both) to see the /sbbs/netmail directory. sbbs lets me enter netmail and creates a 1.MSG in netmail dir. But neither binkD nor Argus has an option to setup a netmail directory. I'm sure I am missing something simple, but I've been at this for 2 days - can someone point me in the right direction?

    Thanks!

BinkD is a BSO/FLO-style mailer, so it does not directly support FTS-1 "stored messages" (the so-called *.msg format) like Attach/Arc/FD-style mailers do. See http://wiki.synchro.net/ref:fidonet_files for details.

As long as you have SBBSecho "packetizing" your netmail (the 'F' option in your SBBSecho export command-line, the FIDOOUT timed event in SCFG), then you should be good to go.

with the F option I am seeing a files called "1.MSG" being generated in the /sbbs/netmail directory. I'm not sure why sbbecho isn't making a >PKT out of it nor why it's not moving it to the outbound folder. I think I'll step away for a few days and come back (hopefully) with clearer eyes. :)

    Thanks for your help!

I just tried running sbbsecho from the command prompt. I don't know why I didn't think of it before. I found the problem - a typo in my outbound path. o_O
The error wasn't producing a log either - yup, typo. This is what I get for staying up late trying to configure fidonet.

have a wonderful evening DM. o7

Is that the same path you have setup in SCFG->Networks->FidoNet->NetMail Directory?

Your data/sbbsecho.log should give you a clue as to why it's not been packetized (or maybe it was, but just wasn't deleted). Check that log file.

    Thanks for your help!

    No problem.

I just wanted to post this just in case someone someday is troubleshooting and comes across this post. :)

Here is an interesting development. sbbsecho was not running from sbbs when I force the FIDOOUT timed event. But when I run sbbsecho from the command line it run and mail is packaged and binkD sends it out. I'm not sure why sbbs isn't running it.

So, I just went in to my SCFG and for some reason Enabled was set to no for both FIDOIN and FIDOOUT.

    Take care!

Is sbbsecho set to the correct mailer type in sbbsecho? Shouldbe Binkley/FLO if you're trying to get a Binkley-type mailer to talk to it. Most mailers are Binkley/FLO nowadays if memory serves.

The thing about typos is it feels so good when you stop. :)

I swear, most of the fun of this hobby to me is making all of this stuff work together. Computers have gotten too easy, going back to the old ways helps me keep my chops. :)
