• Nightshade theme

From Fireball@VERT/FBEX to All on Sunday, November 08, 2015 20:08:22
I've been playing around with my theme that's based on the Nightshade Theme
and I've found something weird. I found that template.additional_services is defined twice; once in my lib/template/siteutils.ssjs and again in /root/index.ssjs. It took me forever to figure out where the extra set of services was coming from after I tried to comment out the ftelnet from index.ssjs.

I've thought about reworking the template engine to be a bit more robust.
Make all SBBS variables available, keep all template files separate from the framework (they seem to be all over the place), and update the css so more of it is reusable instead of tons of stuff that all do the same thing.

I'm holding out for Echicken's new version of his template though. He seems
to be doing a fair amount of overhaul and I like his ideas. :)

I like the Nightshade theme and it's generally easy to work with. The only problem I'm having is trying to float another "left" or "right nav" box to the left or the right of the main content "middle" page. But, I've not spent alot of time troubleshooting it.

Also, one easy new template to add to Synchronet would be for someone to re-do the NightShade CSS to a black background "or textured black" and with a dark grey/black main content area. I think this would be nice addition to the Synchronet themes which is not that time consuming to do.

You could call it DarkShade. :)

I've never had the time to sit down and learn the ssjs, so I'm shooting
from the hip with what I learned from PHP and python. The syntax might be different, but the general idea is the same. I'd love to run apache with a
a PHP frontend, but I haven't figured out how to get the info from the bbs
    into PHP yet...

I haven't tried anything like that. I'd like to move the Main Menu to the
    right side

I'll give it consideration, but no promises. It's taken me a while to
customize my theme the way I like it. I keep finding css that hasn't been changed from my old scheme. Sheesh!

a PHP frontend, but I haven't figured out how to get the info from the bbs into PHP yet...

Simplest way to do it would be a REST API implemented in ssjs and using JSON. Could likely knock that together in a few hours.

well you could always have your bbs write to files and display them.
    that's what i do.

Nice website btw. I think the rounded corners add alot to the appearance and make the css look more modern.

I think you might be on to something there. I hadn't looked much at REST as a solution yet, but it looks promising. :)

    Lith,

Yeah, I like how it's coming along. I've got a bit to do on it before it'll
be where I want it to be though.

I like your website also, but it doesn't seem to be up, so I looked at a
google cached version. Love the retro stuff!! I went to the mod archive and found 2 of my old s3m's. Ahhhhh the good 'ol days. lol!

I think you might be on to something there. I hadn't looked much at REST as a solution yet, but it looks promising. :)

The web server can execute JS and there's JSON.serialize() to respond with... you could use digest auth, and send objects basically as-is.

Modification would be a bit trickier, but still very doable.
