I just realised my Instant Messenger Module is not working on my system. It comes up, and lists all the systems available for instant messenger, but mine is not listed. I looked on other systems just in case mine might not show on my own system, but I'm not listed anywhere. I have all the port open that are needed, and have listed them below. I'm sure I am missing something, just not sure what. Using Windows 7, 32bit, on a dedicated BBS machine. i did a test by telnetting into my system using port 25, and I got the feedback needed. Thanks for any assist.
2 different protocols: ActiveUser (TCP and UDP port 11) and MSP (TCP and UDP port 18). The program that runs nightly to generate the "instant msg server list" (ftp://vert.synchro.net/sbbsimsg.lst) doesn't know about these newer protocols, so we have a disconnect. It's on the todo list to fix.
Ther inter-BBS instant messaging is in a state of flux and has been for several years. Initially, I created that mod and used a combination of finger (over TCP) and SMTP. Deuce then enhanced it to use Finger over
UDP for faster system/user listings and then later over-hauled it again
