I still have users that use dial up modems to connect to my wildcat board. Even though they have internet they prefer the dial up. They get upset
I message out about cancelling my phone line. I get new users dialing up. Most of these people are older who want to relive or experience the dialup
scene.
yep, its cool cept when you try to play a game or DL something than you are back to the stone age lol

daniel, you should use quikedit, the successor to iceedit.
iceedit has a few quirks.
just follow the install instructions and everything will work.
it is now abandonware; the author approves of using the crack because he has lost all the source code.

you can always have multiple editors on your system for people to pick from. ---

I have one installed <G>
I used to have dial-up years ago...running it first exclusively with
GT Power, then had it with Synchronet.
But, at the apartment complex where I have lived since 2003, several
years ago, construction crews were doing work out here. While several underground cables were CLEARLY MARKED, the crews still sliced them like a knife through butter!! They left the holes open, and it poured rain that night night, flooding the cables. The resulting line noise made voice calls extremely noisy/static filled...and modem/fax/data calls were impossible.
Strange how they still manage to do that. Required by law to search for stuff like that prior to digging.

Plus, with being on a fixed income (I've been disabled since 2004), I cna't see spending $50 a month for a vanilla dial-up line.

it's all about what you can get away with once you leave the premise, it seems. Nowhere near the impact, but I remember a company that had their T1 go down, leaving us without network connectivity and voice trunk lines back to a corporate office.
Turns out one of the techs came in to install a fax line in a multi-tenant building and had run out of pairs. He "didn't see" the yellow tag tied to the cross-connect identifying it as a T1 circuit, put his butt set on it, didn't hear dial tone, and "borrowed" the pair.
When we found out what had happened and called Pac Bell, they started quoting normal repair times. For a problem they'd caused. Escalation ensued and I had someone out in a half an hour. They wouldn't send the same guy out, however, as I'd hoped. He would have had a fun time with me hovering over him.
They should have called 811 :-)

that happened to me when i was working. the crews cut through some major lines underground and everyone lost power for couple of days. it was in an industrial area so many businesses were effected.
i just takes one clown with a backhoe to screw it up for everyone
I had never heard of that. Apparently the province I live in does not yet subscribe to that number

Yup, and could be really dangerous to the clown on the backhoe

IF HE DIES, HE DIES! just kidding. i've heard of a lot of backhoes cutting power lines, but not the operator getting zapped.

Probably like me cutting thru the power cord on my circular saw, and wonderi JD>why it quit <G>
Never heard of that one either. Around here they keep advertising Call befo JD>you dig.

Sounds like the Redneck way of doing it. Their smoke detector consists
of a container of Jiffy Pop popcorn on the wall in the kitchen, If you hear rapid popping, it means something's on fire. <G>

Not to mention expensive, especially if warning signs were clearly
noted.
