• need a little synchronet help here

From sysop@VERT/STOMPINT to All on Tuesday, June 09, 2015 18:08:54
    kind of confused
    1. applied for and got my node number for fidonet both in and out netmail works fine
    2. running synchronet 3.16 imported a conference list i got from ggatornethq bbs but i think its not fidonet
    3. what is confusing me is i read online that you could query your node to get a updated list of echoes and/or a conference list to import, i am unsure of the syntax
    4. the article i read said to address the message to SBBSECHO and put your areamanager pass in subject, and in body to put %LIST for a list but i am not getting responses to the netmails i have sent so far
    any ideas?

If your uplink is using sbbsecho, then you can address the areafix request to it. If not, use AREAFIX as the To: name. Also, are you adding on the last line in the body of the message this:

You should probably change your alias to something other than "sysop".

Try sending the message to "AREAFIX" instead. Sending to "SBBSecho" will only work if your uplink is running Synchronet/SBBSecho.

%LIST is a pretty standard command, so that should work with whatever area manager your uplink is using. If you have more questions or problems, you shoudl check with your uplink for tips.

First, change you name from Sysop, to your real name <G>. You can download .NA lists, which are fidonet echos, from various systems. http://www.filegate.net/ Is a good place to start.

As for your password etc. Make sure you have it set the same with your uplink, as he needs the same password, and in the same case. ie Upper or lower case. --- SBBSecho 2.27-Win32

    3. what is confusing me is i read online that you could query your
node to get a updated list of echoes and/or a conference list to
import, i am unsure of the syntax

First off, you HAVE to edit your user account to have your REAL name in the real name field and use your real name when sending Netmails, Fidonet is a stickler for this.

So your NC should of setup a PASSWORD that you usually use with your mailer to make a secure connection when you are getting your netmail/echomail. Often times they will use that password with a program called AREAFIX which lets you (via netmail) add/remove echo's that your board receives.

    Send a netmail to AREAFIX@(Your NC's address)

Subject: Your Password that your NC setup for you

Body of the message, put just "HELP" (without quotes) and send it.

within an hour you should get a response from a program that will explain how to use the system.

    4. the article i read said to address the message to SBBSECHO and put
your areamanager pass in subject, and in body to put %LIST for a list
but i am not getting responses to the netmails i have sent so far
    any ideas?

This is only the case if your NC is running synchronet and uses SBBSECHO to manage echo's. You read an article, where did the article come from? If it was from your NC, then what he wants you to do is send netmail...

    To: SBBSECHO@(His Fidonet address)
Subject: The Area Manager password he gave you
    Body:

    %LIST

Oh that's easy... just create a new group and make sure you give it a unique Internal Code Prefix, setup the subs and then export/append to your areas.bbs file. You'll also have to get into echocfg and setup your aka's and the new uplink node as well... :)
