• Full Install 3.16

I read your announcement in DoveNet and decided to give it a try. I have a spare server up with nothing running on it. Two drives and I installed the synchronet system on drive d: otherwise took all the defaults.

Sychronet Control Panel came up and since this is first time I've dealt with this I had no clue where to start. First problem it told me that there was no number 1 user. So I did a local telnet into the local ip and then setup myself up as a new user. From there everything worked fine and I even tried the games that installed with this setup. The 3 that I tried worked fine so I assume the rest do but will actually get around to play them to be sure.

Then I did an http to the local IP address to the web portion and got the defau lt web screen. logged in and saw a theme change and chose the Nightshadow, tha t was the only one there was to select from. Sort of like the appearance and d ecided to make some cosmetic changes. Found the css file for it and played aro und with colors and made those changes. Not much else I can do. All these are ssjs and I know squat about that. Poked around and just looked.

I saw external program on the web side clicked on it and got a message, which w as very helpful, on how to enable the rlogin for this feature. Otherwise I wou ld have been lost.

I did try to change some of the asc files (cosmetic only) and didn't fair well.
I read in docs about using a conversion to ans using thedraw and reconverting them back again. So I tried that and receieved errors when converting the ans to asc something like unsupported ANSI 'A' or something else. Can I just have ans files instead of the asc? Seems like the conversion does not do well. I u sed the asc2ans and ans2asc apps. Or is there a better way to edit these asc f iles.

Does the mail portion include pop3, listserver?

Well that does it for now. I will continue to mess with it. Maybe I will put it online, but not sure when.

you can just use regular ansi files instead of synchronet color codes.

Yes, but if you have any non-ANSI users, they will see the .ASC file instead.

    Seems like the
conversion does not do well. I u sed the asc2ans and ans2asc apps. Or is there a better way to edit these asc f iles.

It sounds like you probably had ANSI animation sequences in those files. If you're using TheDraw, for example, use Block Save to fix that.

Does the mail portion include pop3, listserver?

Yes, but the listserver is not enabled by default.

Well that does it for now. I will continue to mess with it. Maybe I will put it online, but not sure when.

    Okay, thanks for the feedback.
