    Hello DM,

This message is to you, and everyone who has been developing Synchronet, I've been out of the BBS game for close to 10 years. I use to run Warzone BBS, my old handle was Mrproper. I'v now got back into BBSING, and I'm loving all the new modules I'm viewing here. It's taking me some time to get use to some of the new stuff, but it's all falling together pretty quickly. I have picked up a
couple more hobbies since I last run Warzone BBS. One being Amateur radio, another being RC Modeling. I've been sifting through the code and have noticed some amateur radio related files, as in a morse code JS and a dirty word filter
file for amateur radio. does this mean that sychronet will plug in with some amateur radio software, or radios in the near future? Check into D-Rats ratflectors, would be a good way to intergate the bbs into D-star and packet.

But really, what this message originated for is that I am so happy to see you guys still hard at it, and once I get everything situated on my end I would to love to beta-test amateur radio related modules, If that is where you guys or going, or if I can, try to build some myself :) I'm I'm overwhelmed at all the
new features being impleted and would like to think all the coders/testers, and
    hope to contribute myself.

    73,

    Tim

There are a number of Synchronet projects in JS related to amateur radio. There's a license test (Deuce), some packet stuff (echicken), some IRC-chat bot
stuff (Deuce and others). It's all in CVS so anyone can play with it whenever.

    Cool. Welcome back!

BBS. One being Amateur radio, another being RC Modeling. There's some support for AX.25 (packet) but I need to put some work into it before it becomes usable again. The "dirty word filter file" is just a placeholder that needs to be built out (it would contain a list of words that shouldn't be transmitted over packet, etc., since there are rules about that sort of thing.)

Yeah, that, and I was wondering if any of this is even feasible since there is encyryption used, I havent been an ham long, but always wanted to find a way to
somehow intergrate packet or the like into Synchronet. but that just opens up a
whole new can of worms. could you even forward text written by someone who is non-licensed over onto packet or the like? Maybe it could be considered being a
control operator? I dunno.. have you ever messed with D-rats? just got my hands
on it the other day and it puts me in the mind of synchronet, with file, message, email and chat.

    Best Regards,

As long as nothing is encrypted between the BBS and the packet client, there shouldn't be any problems there.

that just opens up a whole new can of worms. could you even forward text written by someone who is non-licensed over onto packet or the like? Maybe

As far as I know this is fine. Amateur radio operators do relay messages for others on occasion. In my country you're allowed to do that as long as you don't charge for the service.

it could be considered being a control operator? I dunno.. have you ever messed with D-rats? just got my hands on it the other day and it puts me in the mind of synchronet, with file, message, email and chat.

No, I have not. It looks like the Hotline of the D-STAR world. It's conceivable that a compatible service could be written for Synchronet, with the right bits and pieces in place (presenting your message & file areas, etc. to compatible clients.)
