Hello! I'm Ryan Knutson, and I'm just setting up my BBS.
My question is why my mail doesn't want to go through. My ISP blocks
port 25, so I tried to send mail with the Vertrauen mail relay. It connects fine, but then gives a '501 bad argument' error when it tries
to send. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Shot in the dark here... but did you let Rob know you were going to use his system as a relay?

I believe he's got his system set up so that as long as your system has a DOVE-Net QWK ID via Vertrauen, you're golden to use SMTP relaying. Anybody feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, of course.

OK, in doing research on the 334 error... are you sure you have your username and password correct for the qwk account you setup on VERT?

It's actually a 501 error, and yes I think I have the right username/pass. I tried re-entering it too.

OK.. 501 error....
501
Another syntax error, not in the command but in its parameters or arguments. In the majority of the times it's due to an invalid email address, but it can also be associated with connection problems (and again, an issue concerning your antivirus settings).
Send a debug mode log to DM. I'm sure he'll figure it out.
