I'd like to disable the new-scan on a given sub-board for new users by default.

I tried doing this in SCFG:

Message Areas->Group->Message Sub-boards->Sub-board->Toggle Options...

And then setting "Default On for New Scan" to "No". However, whenever a new user is registered, the new-scan is still enabled by default on all sub-boards, including the ones where I disabled it as mentioned above.

What am I doing wrong?

Actually, answering to myself, I've just noticed it works for newly created sub-boards. The problem seems to manifest itself only on already created sub-boards in which I edit "Default On for New Scan" to "No".

I'm also assuming there's some semaphore mechanism in place, similar to what happens to other configuration changes, which reload the BBS's configuration without the need to manually restart it (running under Linux).

I can't think of anything obvious. Are you sure the new user is being created *after* the change is being made in SCFG? How is the new user account being created?

This may help but it does it for all MSG areas and you may have to manually say yes to allow the specific areas you want in the say you did above...

Go to System > New User Values > Default Toggles

Under there you'll see a few options for New and Msg scans...
