• Mail server weirdness

From Fireball@VERT/FBEX to All on Sunday, September 07, 2014 07:06:17
Hi y'all! I'm getting the strangest error with smtp and not sure what it is that's causing it. I did a recent update attempt (it crashed the compiler at the cio lib) and that might be a factor. The error is as follows...

The error that the other server returned was:
552 Message size (238) exceeds maximum: 20 bytes

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Under Mail->Configure->SMTP (at least under Windows), check on the Max Message Size setting. Somehow, mine got reset to 10K a while ago and I was bouncing most mails with attachments.

I'm running under Linux with no gui. There's nothing in scfg about this setting, so I'm going to guess it's in an ini file somwewhere...

Check the MaxMsgSize setting in your ctrl/sbbs.ini file. The default (now in CVS) is set to "20M", which means 20 megabytes, but older versions of sbbs would interpret "20M" to mean 20 bytes. I suspect this is the problem you're having.

It's set to "20MB" right now, should I change it to "20M"? I'm having a weird compiler crash that I reported to the Sync Programming base and haven't been able to compile cvs for over a while now....

i dont have that in my sbbs/ctrl/sbbs.ini file on my [this] linux bbs

everything works fine without it, though.
i suppose i should add it.

No, you should change it to blank (or 20000000) if you're running an older version of sbbs.

The compiler is crashing or display a compile or link error? Have you tried a clean rebuild? It's building nightly on Linux-x64 (Debian) just fine.
