• Internet Email not delivered to the board

From nolageek@VERT/CAPSHRIL to All on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 09:50:33
I've noticed that I can send mail out to the internet, but incoming messages never make it to the board. I don't even see connections coming in... MX records look good and I have ports 25 and 587 open the firewall. Anything else I can check config wise? EMTP is "Enabled" in the Sync Control Panel.

I've run some tests at pingability and other DNS/Mail test and they usually say they time out while trying to connect.

    Any suggestions?

Your ISP may be blocking the standard SMTP mail port, as some ISPs are doing these days. If that's the case, you might need to use a port redirection service - Basically, how that works is that someone's redirection service listens on that port for your DNS and then forwards it to you at a different port. I've been using DNSExit for this very purpose on my BBS, and it has
    been working fairly well:

While I wouldn't rule it out, the server is on a cloud AWS instance at Amazon so I can't image they'd be blocking ports. I have full access to the
firewall and can open/close ports at will. After ports, how can I be sure the bbs is listening?

well i connected to you on port 25 but it took a long time.
i had to mash the keys to get something to come up.

paste a SS of your mx records and what isp are you using?

Here's a quick imgur album with my DNS records and the result of a mxtoolbox.check.

Yeah, it's hard to imagine AWS would block ports.. If you want to be sure the BBS is listening, I suppose you could try to telnet to your BBS on the SMTP port and see if it connects and responds with anything.

Not that I can see - the weird thing is I was just trying different options and I found that after I disabled "Authenticated Users Can Relay Via This Server" that everything started working again. Wierd.

Seems to be working just fine now.

is your domain name in your aliases.cfg ?
didnt you say that you didnt see anything in the control panel when sending test msgs? if this is true, than changing that setting didn't do anything.
