• Synchronet inside Docker

From Sardaukar@VERT to All on Wednesday, May 07, 2014 14:50:42
    Hello!

I have created a recipe for Synchronet to run as a Docker container, making it easier (hopefully) for people to deploy it with zero impact on the rest of the system.

The code is up at https://github.com/sardaukar/synchronet-docker, and the Docker index entry is up at https://index.docker.io/u/sardaukar/synchronet/.

To use this, just install Docker (the docs might help at http://docs.docker.io/) and do "docker pull sardaukar/synchronet" to download the image. After that

    docker run -d -p 23:23 sardaukar/synchronet

And login at localhost on port 23!

I'm having some issues with the configuration, so I'd like to ask you guys if there is a standardized config file that can be added to the image without having to run the SBBS config tool. Any pointers appreciated!

    Cheers,

    sardaukar

you can just unzip synchronet and run it.
    how is that hard?

With this, you can run this independently of PC installed on - just move the container to some other Linux host and it remains the same.

i'm not sure what you mean, i guess i'll have to look into that.

i've changed hosts on windows and linux easily with synchronet in the past.

you might want to update your entry on github though.

synchonet is more than a telnet bbs; it's a server suite.

One might also ask how hard it really is for you to just shut
the fuck up instead of criticizing innovation and added diversity and
options to such a wonderful BBS package that you allegedly love and
    support.
    How is _THAT_ hard? Oh, that's right . . . Self-control, it's
a cereberal development that sets apart intelligent life from purely instinctual life forms that we commonly refer to as lesser animals...
So I guess the question really is: did you mommy not teach you self-
control and restraint, or are you just a different species altogether?

Guh up the effbomb down wif yr bad self; seriously. That means 'shut
the effbomb up, in the parlance of the first child I raised from birth
on . . . I recommend it because my patience with people that are only
interested in passing judgement and making pointless jabs without
knowing the exact facts about what they're dealing with is waning.
    Consider yrself warned.
