I've used dtdns.com given address since forever. They are the ones that provide the *.darktech.org addresses.

I don't really have a list, per se. But just off the top of my head, afraid.org
is apparantly the new 'in' thing. no-ip.com also still offers free service as well.

I'm sure there's more smaller ones out there that I haven't heard of, but if I were to need a free DNS these days, I'd probably just go with afraid.org now.

I only kept my free service through Dyn because it was just there, and every month I just had to click a link in an email to update it. I haven't really needed the service for a year or two now though, and had a feeling that this would happen eventually. Why offer stuff for free when you can get paid for it and put your money, time, and resources you were putting into that free service
to produce more income? I think the writing has been on the wall for a long time, we (including myself) just denied it as long as we could. :)

I would think so. Rob seems to do it with synchro.net. He would probably be a good lead in the right direction. There has to be some kind of software that does it, because I know Rob's not creating CNAMEs for each and every person that sets up the DYNDNS timed event in Synchronet.

I have used dtDNS since like 2002 or something with no problems. I wish
they offered mail redirection service (I'd pay of course) since Comcast started blocking me.

I have been looking at no-ip's service and will probably get around to
using that for mail redirection eventually.

the update requests and ensuring that they are authentic... outside of that, the software is available... the stuff that no-ip uses for automated updates is
available and the method is used by numerous other services... there's also the
software that dynip.com uses... i have a copy of their sources because it is needed for *nix boxen...

anyway, there's all sorts of solutions... one just has to figure out how they want to handle signups and client ip updates...

yeah that sucks, but i'm not surprised. they drastically reduced their

I found mintDNS earlier today myself. May send them a message to see about a free non-commercial lisence. Sucks it only runs on Windows though. It's much easier for me to put up a linux VPS at work.

yes, that's one of the reasons why i didnt follow through with it.
    looks nice, though.

i posted some dyndns services on bbsnews.org

surprisingly there are actually places that will do free domain registrations. not surprisingly is they are crappy, buggy sites.

Or, you could, you know, shut the fuck up, and understand that maybe not everybody is in a situation where doing such is even remotely possible due to the economic condition of this country. There are plenty of other reasons, as well. Some of us may think that this godless capitalism that you've bought into hook, line, and sinkered all the way until that trebel hook caught in the warm flesh of your gut sucks fucking ass. Maybe buying a title for something that doesn't exist anywhere but namespace anyway is a little bit fucking stupid? Maybe somebody needs to bring their little pinheaded body down to Earth again at some point here and try to wake up and understand that there
are other people out here who have other viewpoints and opinions. You're not the smartest kid in the class anymore, Mro, if you ever were back in the day. You're bright, but misguided. Find a good role model.
