the sysop of roughnecks uses twitter _A LOT_, so that's a good way to contact him.

BTW, I've been meaning to ask.. have you been having problems lately with your old wi.rr.com email settings? I had to switch recently to "mail.twc.com" for POP and SMTP servers after a long discussion with tier 3 support. I had them stumped, and was kinda giggling about it.

Odd. Seems as though those stopped working for me recently. The new mail.twc.com works find though. Who knows.

I talked to a couple techs recently, and they're saying they want to have it rolled out within the year, though they doubt it will happen as there's entirely too much crap TWC has it's grubby hands on.

Either way, one benefit is that Comcast offers faster internet speeds than TWC, and I'm currently in the process of setting everything up with Netflix and Hulu Plus in order to free ourselves from the ridiculous pricing of cable TV. I'm already paying enough with all the equipment we need for 3 TVs to work decent - then they send me a letter in the past week or two that says next bill my rates are going up due to "their continued care for the customer in making sure all channels are available to you [blah blah]."

This hike will probably break the $200/month barrier I never wanted to even come close to. So screw them. I'll downgrade to internet only, get their fastest speed (100mbit now I believe), and hit up Netflix and Hulu Plus for $16/month instead.

The only thing I'll have to do is put myself in the market for one more internet TV and finally rid myself of the old 90s tube TV we have in our bedroom. But the savings on cable TV in the long run will by far be more noticeable to me.

    Regards,
    Nick

one thing that i noticed about my friend who lives just by the illinois
border is he enjoys having comcast and his speeds are great. i dont think he has the TWC issue where they jack up the prices every year.

another thing is, if you talk to 10 people on TWC, 5 of them are paying different prices for the same service. paying 200/month is bullshit. i dont care if you get phone/tv/internet. it's just bullshit.

if i were you i'd just join a torrent site and download the few tv shows you watch.

I don't think you'd get in trouble for downloading tv, when they only way
you are hurting them is ratings.

to me, tv is just a way to have background noise anyways. there's
only a few good tv shows worth watching. i threw out my tv a few months ago and i just pipe everything from my media server computer to displays.

I highly recommend subscribing to Giganews (about $12/month I think) and get your TV shows from newsgroups. Feds/RIAA/MPAA completely ignores newsgroups and most releases come to newsgroups first.

Friend of mine has a system setup that pulls all new episodes for all TV programs to his 74TB Drobo and they are accessable via Plex (Great program turns your PC into a DLNA server) online or at his home on any device. Commercial free, HD, usually available minues after the show airs.

He works in VFX (Hollywood), so it's a work expense.

that's pretty cheap if that's unlimited. i use astraweb. and nzb.su

when there's releases they pretty much post to torrent sites and newsgroups
    at the same time.

the problem i had with newsgroups is 'they' were going after the indexing sites. then there were dmca takedowns of the indexing sites and binaries on newsgroups. i dont know if that is still continuing as much as it was a year ago, but right now i just stick with the one torrent site i use.

i only watch about 3-4 tv shows, i just grab it after they drop and watch
them on my big screen lcd.

using the capacity calculator, and adding 4tb drives you can only get 43.65tb on the drobo. i think i only have about 15tb total at home scattered across various computers, about 6tb on my media server.

You might be right, was kindda guessing.

I have 3 500gb hdd's on my media pc, but it's mostly used as a dvr to record over the air programs.
