• fidonet routing packets to outbound issue in binkd

    Hey guys,

So in looking at my sbbsecho.log, .msg filea re in fact eing routed to proper addresses. Here's the problem. Whether it be binkd or sbbsecho, some program is copying ll of my non zone 1 email to folders with hex extensions that I think match their nodes. Bnikd looks for its outbound in oe folder, and since I'm a node and not someone who needs to transport files to multiple nodes, I'd like the files to go into my main outbound folder. I know I can use a
filebox, but my problem is that I would have to move the files within the (for gatornet for instance) the outbox.039 folder to the outbox folder. I tested this out and moving the file to outbound actually sent the message. Is Synchronet creating these foldes as the .out files are in those hex folders.
I have sbbsecho set to use fuzzy zones, and all zone 57:all traffic to be sent to my hub. Should I just switch to another mailer and save the hours I've
been working on figuring this out?

    Noel

This is normal operation, and how Synchronet does it. It seems as though you don't have binkd setup properly for your other zones though.

Specifially, the "domain" line. This is where it points to the proper outbound directory, and since Synchronet is not 5D aware, you should have something like this:

    domain fidonet /path/to/outbound 1
    domain gatornet /path/to/outbound 1
    domain othernet /path/to/outbound 1

Point each domain to your single outbound directory, and since you are in the USA, your default Fidonet zone is 1. This will make any Fidonet zone 1 mail from you use your default "outbound" directory. Any other networks will use the hexadecimal directories for their zone.

    Regards,
    Nick

BinkD and SBBSecho are following the rules of "Binkley Style Outbound", see http://wiki.synchro.net/ref:fidonet_files for details on details on these directories and filenames. There may be something you need to configure or setup in BinkD to get it to recognize the foreign zone folders, but I don't recall ever having a problem with it.
