• New board! Saying hello and and asking a question - SSH

From the sysop@VERT/CAPSHRIL to All on Friday, February 21, 2014 14:25:04
Hey guys! New board here. Put the board back up after a 14 years and in a new city. I ran Peaceful Death on WWIV in the 90s in New Orleans, put up Capitol Shrill in DC just last week. So far everything is good except I have a few friends that are security crazy and won't call using telnet. I have it opened in the windows firewall and in the Amazon firewall. I've enabled it in SCP and confirmed it's set correctly in sbbs.cnf

However, I see this error in SCP when I try to connect:
2/18 01:54:04p SSH Server listening on port 22
    2/18 01:54:14p 1776 SSH connection accepted from: 69.143.8.20 port 57719
    2/18 01:54:14p 1776 SSH Cryptlib error -11 setting socket

On the client side I get "ssh_exchange_identification: read: Connection reset by peer"

Why is the port saying 57719 (it's different each time) - shouldn't it be 22?

Thanks for any help or suggestions!

No, 22 is the listening/server port. 57719 is the originating/client port.

I believe he's referring to "Secure Copy" which is a way to copy files over SSH. If he's using Windows, then he's probably trying to connect to his system with an application like WinSCP, which will connect to an SSH server and allow you to transfer files from one system to another using the 'secure copy' (SCP) protocol.

No, not at all.... I was stating in the Terminal window of the Control Panel when anyone tries to connect with SSH (port 22) or I try during a test using SyncTerm, it shows the error "SSH Cryptlib error -11 setting socket" message. I have no idea what term program the others are using who try to connect, all I know is when someone does try SSH, I see that error message. I've just set it to debug to see if it will give me anymore information so I can get back to you here with it.

    Be well...
